  • I've offered to share the details of this ride with these guys: https://twitter.com/#!/under_the_city
since I've talked to them before about subterranean rivers.

I was thinking of sending a link to this thread, along with a link to Oat44's info card and a link to Skydancer's photos since they're great. Please let me know if anyone objects.

  • Also, here's the soundscape-river-tube-map mashup I mentioned to Nick: http://londonist.com/2011/12/a-soundmap-of-londons-waterways.php

  • ^ that's really quite lovely.

  • Repcakes

  • what hms said...

I like how most are soothing sounds of water trickling, birds singing, woodpigeon's cooing, and then you get to Mile End...

Interesting that these guys pride themselves on being two years ahead of Bill Fontana's water-sound installation at Somerset House - the one I thought you meant.

Re the info sheet - I haven't credited the images I used/stole, as it was intended just for us, I might just do a text only version if it's going into the twittersphere - but in principle that's fine - glad it's appreciated

  • Feel free to send the link to the pics cupcakes

  • Here's a slightly modified version

If you could remove any details of access that would be great too, including the link wide shot of the lid on here. Haven't seen the sheet so I don't know if any details were included anyway, but its best not to have that stuff in twitterland for a variety of reasons.

I realise I'm starting to sound like a boring internet dad on this, but so you know, if I was on the ride I would have happily taken a couple of people actually inside the main chamber for some light painting shots as you'd already lifted a lid. Saying that, Sunday afternoon is normally a heavy use time for any CSO so it wouldn't have been that pleasant.

  • ^ Too slow. Thats a good info sheet
for above ground exploring, well done.

  • shame you couldn't come along mate, would have liked to have a chat. south london underground ride?

    removed, hope that's OK

And dude, that would have been awesome to see you again!!!

  • And dude, that would have been awesome to see you again!!!

I would have definitely dragged you down for an underground poo-hug. FFS don't google that.

I'm gonna try for the G Ride so hopefully hugs and black stuff aplenty then xx

  • good man!

  • ^^^

    You'll love Freudiain ride, then!

(Just seen Chainbreaker's post - I rest my case)

    Fixed.

  • We should do this again. With a different slant.

    Swimming, cinemas and wine

  • Paging @oat44 ... though bton breaking and entering feels like a step beyond.

Might be nice to do a version of this anyway - with or without the palatial dungeons.

  • this looks amazing...

  • Can't be bothered reading the article properly right now but is this the development idiom that led to the the myth about all poor wee anthropomorphised diggers in their self dug concrete tombs? I work in the Belgravia area where the J. Fritz and Fam. Construction Co. do a lot of their work and I'm fairly sure an LFGSS ride wouldn't get access to the excess of the fuck-you-class's jack-boot-à-terrez, but wasn't there some unfinished business from the last subterranean ride? We only scratched the surface of south London. The original was such a good day out a re-run would be worth doing with our without covering new (under)ground.

  • We only scratched the surface of south London.

We hardly did any south at all just the submarine thing, which wasn't underground, though @oat44 did hit the ground there.

Yes we need to explore more.

  • I would be up for getting down with you all again.

The last one was SIX years ago!

  • Looked up this ride a propos of nothing and what do I see...

    IN!

  • Excellent! So a mostly (but not entirely) southerly version of this?

    On it

  • In!

  • So a mostly (but not entirely) southerly version of this?

How about a touch of West too?

    Westbourne/Kilburn
    Parr's creek
    Stamford Brook
    Brent...

...are western subterranean rivers flowing to the Thames
