if you are interested in Pikes Peak, it is worth watching this documentary on RedBullTV about Loeb in the Peugeot 208 T16 beating Rhys Millen

Since they paved it all the way up the mountain, the cars share a surprising amount of Le Mans prototype parts

150+ mph in traffic, floaty. Were companions ok with this?!

The Ghibli looks lovely and a real product of it's time.
It looks great on those wheels but I have a soft spot for OZ Futuras and suspect that it would look even better on those.

Re the Ghibli wheels; didn't the forum unanimously agree on the correct decision when the idea was erroneously first mooted?
Car looks wicked BTW. That rear and boot line!
Just had a quick look at the cost of the older ones. Ouch. Can well imagine theyre the sort of cars that were next to worthless at one point.
This is definitely now on my lotto-wishlist

Glad I could share something. Check out Rendezvous. Blasting a Ferrari 275 gtb (was probably actually a Mercedes) through Paris to make a meeting... One of the first bits of giro stabilised filming. All a bit more scripted than climb dance but cool nonetheless.

Think the OG wheels were the choice, but those futuras look good and are period correct. Aren't they?

Do you want my bimmer? I haven’t sold it yet because we were too busy planning Italy and now being in Italy. I do you a good price. It’s cheap enough that you don’t even need to sell the Golf!

Ha! I painted a more reckless picture than it really was. It was 3 lanes, traffic was HGVs in lane 1 and the odd car in lane 2, I was in lane 3 so it was clear for me but I couldn’t be 100% certain someone wouldn’t want to come into lane 3 but there was no immediate concern for that.
The reason it’s floaty is because the rear squats a fair amount when accelerating so the front doesn’t have loads of weight on it. Added to that the boot was fully loaded so that exacerbated the problem.
I think that’s something I’d like to address in the future but I’m not often >100 let alone 150 so it’s not a huge problem. Also the 3rd gear wheelspins in the dry when accelerating out of corners is hilarious.
Wife closed the windows at 130, said the wind noise was too much, and the bab was fast asleep.
When I say floaty and wandery, it wasn’t perceptible to the passengers, it just meant it required more than basic concentration to drive the car at 150mph. Which is the sort of thing you’d expect to have to do at that speed back in the 90s. Last year however I drove my mum’s 2015 Audi A4 on a derestricted autobahn at 160mph 3 up with a full boot and it felt more stable and straighter than my MX5 does at 50mph.

I reckon solid front subframe mounts and that feeling would go- ties the front together very effectively.

Yes i believe the forum did. But then the discussion was original vs the later 95+ wheels (different than the 94 ghibli ks only futuras). But yeah i too now see the light but im still interested to see what the futuras would look like on the car. They have another issue as well, the wheel arch body is not folded up on the inside on the 93s like the rest of the modells. So potentially a wider tire even if fitted in the exact same possition as the later version ghiblis could interfere with the body if the car bottoms out. Then i guess one could take it to a shop and "fold" the panel like on the later versions but then im worried about potentially having to deal with paint issues??
Me n my dad actually test drove one of those first ghiblis some 20 years ago. It was for sale for around 300.000 SEK so about 25k GBP. It was a car in very good shape. He dident end up buying it despite me nagging him about it best i could for a month. A friend of his did end up buying the same car. I believe its worth close to 200.000 GBP today. I still nag him about it when he tells me that my Ghibli II was a purchase ill regret and dident "need" (which ofc he is correct in saying but i wanted it so why say it..)
The older Ghibli had a terrible 3 speed auto (as i remember it) but with lots of grunt. It was ofc a really old car and it felt like it as well. It did and do however still look super cool
The same shop did have a red Ferrari Daytona for not a lot more. That is likely on my top 10 of all time cars. Man if one could go back in time .)

I think you could get the guards "rolled" it would be neater and less likely to damage the paint than waiting for the suspension to bottom out! But yeah, I'd be seeking some professional advice and tripple check clearances with the bigger wheels

Was in Tescos yesterday (getting my best clothes etc) Spotted the Bertone marque on the side of a god awful Vauxhall Astra Cabriolet. What a sad end to a glorious design house. Remeber folks. The best isnt always good enuff. 😎

They did design the coupe and convertible versions of the Astra F and G.
One last hurrah was the Aston Martin Rapide Jet 2 but they went into receivership before they could make any more. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aston_Martin_Rapide_Bertone_Jet_2%2B2
Their last production car was even more ignominious than the Astra - A bland chinese blob of a saloon car called the Riich G5. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riich_G5
