Anyone know why Bagman 2 seems unavailable from Carradice? I have found one, but not sure if I want it if it’s somehow rubbish...

They seem to be out of stock of a few things at the moment with quite a few bags on"email me stock alerts" so I think it may be part of that.

As Thrustvector says below - a lot broke! Mine snapped in half, and when I emailed them they said it was happening quite a bit.

@Thrustvector I emailed them first and they just said to include the colour I wanted and some extra CC numbers in the message box.
£5 surcharge per bag to get the black/black colour. -

Cool, thanks - will drop them a line come payday then...

@skully Seen this? https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/255909/?offset=250
I tweaked my bagman to have a light mount, this is it mid way.

two custom Camper Longflaps (black with black leather) for me and the Mrs.
They do custom?? Would not mind another Camper.. mine is some 25 years old and still my favourite given its capacity. I bought an 11l Zimbale but use it instead as a front bag with a Nitto M18 rack.

I think 'custom' as in if you want colours of the canvas and leather they already do for a certain bag model but in a different combination.
I don't think they'd do more than that. -

Nice work! Those look like something used in rack strut / bolt fixings... yes?
-
• #1037
@Skülly yep theyre rack fixings I had some spare but I'm fairly sure SJS will have them.
edit: found these

if you're lucky depending on the length you need you can use the struts as well. -

@TheShipwright I have some! Cheers for the tip.

What light do you attach to that? Is it easily removeable/chargeable

Still. Carradice these days has so many colours.. Not that I'd want anything other than black.. Does the custom cost extra? I'd be curious about the black leather. The white leather belts on my Camper looked new like a kind of buff leather with a waxed front surface. They have worn extremely well despite rain, sleet, snow and burning sun. Don't know if they are still using the same leather process. The black leather I assume is blue split (chromed)..

Does anyone know where I can get a cheaper bagman. 30£ is a lot for about of bent tubing. I can print the clip myself however.. maybe I could try bending some pipe on my own...

And then there are these struts that are made to be used with the basic bagman http://practicalcycles.com/products/365984--carradice-bagman-alloy-support-struts-converts-bagman-rack-for-heavy-loads.aspx
-
• #1044
But with alloy struts won't you just have the same problem as with the Bagman 2? AIUI a heavily loaded bag causes it to flex enough that the support struts fail through fatigue, while the steel Bagman frame is fine. OTOH alloy pannier racks seem to last ok, so IDK.

It wasn't the struts that broke on them, it was the bagman part itself. The whole thing was made of aluminum. I had one. The loop under the bag broke. It was also made of tubing, not solid bar like the struts. Now I'm still using a strut from that, with a basic steel bagman, years later.
But I haven't used the struts that are on that link so don't know how good they are but the material shouldn't be a problem.
-
• #1046
Ah, my bad - I hadn't realised they'd made the frame from aluminium as well.

Been using my alloy one for 4 years, massively overload a Nelson Longflap, full shop and a beer growler on frequently and it hasn't snapped. Don't if I'm just lucky or careful rider but been very happy with it even though i know materials are supposedly inferior

How much bigger than the Nelson Longflap is the Camper Longflap dimensionally? Obviously it's 18 vs 24 litres, but as Carradice don't actually give overall dimensions for the bags including pockets, and I can't find any useful comparison photos online, I can't work out how much bulkier it is in real life. From some of the info on SJS it looks like the bags are about the same width overall, but the Camper is a couple of cm taller and deeper. I know people say the Nelson is the perfect all-rounder bag, but as I'm planning on using the bag for some CC touring as well as commuting I'm thinking about going for the bigger bag and just accepting that it will be slightly underfilled a lot of the time (plus I prefer the Camper's metal D-rings to the Nelson's leather patches).

Get the Camper if you're the slightest bit unsure, unless you have a smallish frame.

Does anyone have a white toe strap they don't need that they could part with? I've lost the one that holds my carrafice to the seatpost.
Long shot but does anyone have any super c front panniers they want to part with?
