singletrackwürld but they're cheap elsewhere too

Ah they're not the Stealth black of the MX3

Anyone tried Mavic Crossride Quest? 2.35", UST tubeless, £10 on CRC, tempted to give them a go as I'd like to swap a couple of bikes over to tubeless at the same time

Fucking bombproof though. I've gone through two chains on my one. Teeth have barely shown wear. Currently riding in very sandy conditions too.

Thinking of getting a Marin pine mountain as they look good and I'm wary of my 26" alu GT lasting much longer than this season, and it's a bit small. I'd like to avoid the same issue with my next frame so could any of you proper MTBers tell me which size to go for? I'm 6'2" and marin say XL up to 6'2" and XXL 6'2-6'4.

Sold my Ritchey and will be buying this Niner Ros9 from a friend of mine. It's the rowdiest bike I've ever rested my crotch on... God I love a Pike.
And in geared guise...

Does anyone have a stubby 25.4mm clamp for sells? Around the 50mm mark ideal, and black.
-
• #11334
@xkittyx has one, and is tall(ish). Not sure what size though.
-
• #11335
I normal go for a size down for mtb. All my road bikes are XL but Swift is L - I'd go XL if you're between sizes
-
• #11336
Thanks both. Paging @xkittyx then. There's only 11mm difference in reach between xl & xxl but quite a bit more stack which makes me feel instagram friendly slammage is assured and I could dick around with different stems. But maybe that's not how mtb works?
-

...how mtb works?
Current approach is to stick all the reach in the frame and run as short a stem as possible.
-

Ok, sounds like the XXL would be better after all... Sorry for all the noob questions. Last time I was into mtb the stems were 130mm. Marin also says the fork spacing is 110mm. Is this a common standard or would I be better off choosing a different fork?

Hang on BN, you're very tall aren't you? And have an epic talbot hardtail I've seen somewhere upthread? You obviously know everything about mtb geo - what's your opinion?
-
• #11340
Fork is some weird standard on the Pine Mountain I think... worth looking into.
-
• #11342
110mm is the recent Boost standard. Becoming more prevalent in MTB these days, especially for bikes with bigger wheels (both in terms of width and diameter).

I thought those Marins had a weird rear hub. And didn't Mr kitty not particularly like his? The 27.5+, which seems seems to be dying, was too much like a pogo stick.

PM me some current bikefit details, and I can draw up an XL & XXL for you you on BikeCad. See which one looks most suited.
-
• #11345
According to the website, it has 141 x 9mm rear and 110 x 9mm front. Don't think I'd want to be stuck with that :-/
Edit - Pine Mountain and Pine Mountain 1 have 141 x 9mm. Pine mountain 2 has 148 x 12mm Boost.

Those plus tyres have a sweet spot, and I don't think he was in it very often :-)

Right. Seemed too good to be true...

Thanks for the kind offer! I wouldn't want to trouble you. And since the frame's dropout standards aren't future proof I think I'll give it a miss.

@russmeyer wrote a long answer then saw your post saying you'll give it a miss. Great bike for what I use it for now - commuting and camping duties on sort of bumpy but not jumpy stuff.
Also doesn't have a replaceable mech hanger which imo on a bike in 2018 is an actual sin, especially for one that's supposed to go offroad. Just in case sizing is still of interest I'm 186cm tall with long legs + short torso and have an XL pine mountain.
The MX3? Where did you get one for £25?
