  • Cheers. I was having a look through his photostream, but couldn't see anything.

I should probably drop him an email.

@ricky2slicky -yes I'd noticed that, but it's pretty expensive for one part on a cheap watch. My only thought on the polishing was to acid etch it first as from 31trum's watches it looks like it could give a pretty good key... no idea what you'd then paint it with.

Again cost prohibitive, but an idea option would be a black plastic 3D printed one.

  • Have put the rubber zulu on the pepsi. Liking it.

  • Even I think wow...

I really want a Pepsi rolex... Girlfriend thinks is gash.

  • Following on from the Hodinkee Roger Smith video, a quick look at a couple of Daniels watches.

His watches are the only ones I consider 'grails' for me...

  • yes @Gustav, @Stonehedge is correct, sorry. Make sure you don't use polywatch on anything that has an external anti-reflective coating (though presumably you could polywatch the whole crystal and remove the coating entirely)

  • Like all my mechanical watches it needs a service. Still think that I had good taste when I turned eighteen.

Edit: guess pictures from mobile don't work.

  • @Stonehedge @freddo thanks for the advice

  • Spotted on FB...

  • Very nice.

  • Ooh is that a 256? That is delish on the black leather strap. I’d love one of them, you made a cracking choice.

  • Thanks guys, yes its a 256. Serial Nr 25, bought 20 years ago. I am not that young anymore I guess.
Had seen a Heuer Bundeswehr which it is based on and the smaller size is just nicer on my wrist. Haven't worn watches in 10 years, the Sinn goes to Frankfurt soon for a full service and to see if they have a spare bezel for the future.

Also need to decide where to bring those two for a service:

  • Well I wish I had the prescience to buy that twenty years ago, kudos for not battering it in your youth. I’m a big fan of the Sinn 156/ Bell Ross M1(with the thicker Lem 5100) but it’s so much chunkier I doubt my wrist could pull it off. Not sure when I’ll ever get to try one to find out.
Sorry can’t really help with servicing, if you’re in London Alsal have an honest rep round here.

  • The 156 is also really nice.
The watch is unbattered because I also had the omega seamaster that came to me battered (crown missing and bezel all worn) to wear.
Only thing a bit odd with the 256 is the bezel that doesn't click it just turns freely.

And on the service front, just did one more Google and found a watchmaker around the corner here in Berlin.
Father and sons, in business since 1967. Went and had a pleasant chat and left one watch.

Who would have thought that a shop called Istanbul watches that looks like they can fit a strap makes such a good impression?
Really happy they have a new homepage so I found them.

  • Only thing a bit odd with the 256 is the bezel that doesn't click it just turns freely.

That's a pilot's watch thing though, isn't it? It doesn't need the one-way ratchet of a diver, so can just be a friction fit (or am I now imagining things?)

  • Must be. The air king internal bezel job that looks like a diver-come-pilot does the same.

  • And once again I learn something on lfgss!

  • We may be wrong

  • Had to work hard to not pull the trigger on this:

  • Or it's slightly more battered fellow

    £200

  • Fuh-waaaaarrrrrr. What's the dollar on the beauty?

I like the dirty one , maybe cos of the price

  • $475 - so £400 or so

  • Looks weird with the sixes cut off and the numerals on the dials in different positions
