Also you left the best quote out...
Good quote.
Reminds me a bit about what Graeme obree said in his book, which was essentially- Ignore everything everyone else tells you
- Do 30 minutes hard as you can on a trainer about once per week, when you have recovered.
- Do as many miles the rest of the time as you can, all at recovery pace.
- Ignore everything everyone else tells you

with that advice, I'd choose option 1. and leave the rest!

Re: Strasser. I personally can't do 4-6hrs a day so I progressively overload weekends while the weekdays are static (commutes and one speed session, in previous years I have added volume but not sure if any use).
Also, I like being able to go "ooh that's another audax I've checked off my todo list" so there's a satisfaction in doing the longer, more fatiguing rides.
In previous years though I got to the point when I was doing 18hr weekends at 24hr race pace up and down A roads and it really sucked dick although it was effective training for me I hated it and now refuse to do that again.

That's solid. 24h pace is a good pace.

IP and Hour record are quite a bit different to ultras.
I bet his recovery pace was higher than most. I'd go (more) bonkers if it was all done slow.

• #557
Specificity.
But then look at my 10mi PB set with no speed work after TCR. That goes counter to everything about training pyramids - just a fuckload of SLOW volume during TCR then a month off drinking then knock 30s off 10mi PB. dafuq

Anyone got a NeoAir XLite that they'd like to sell me?
-
• #559
Training is all irrelevant anyway. Once your arse looks like an uncooked hamburger patty no one gives a fuck about your FTP it's all about taking your mind off raw sitbones.

I'm still looking for one of the large ones. Some dickhead overpaid on ebay so beat me to the last one I've seen. What size do you need?

Yes and no. Like your next comment, people who are fast over one distance tend to be fast over all distances.
As long as they have got the ability, mental setup, arse toughness, etc to ride long distance

A couple of squirts of@bananaskid 's deep heat numbing spray and you won't feel a thing

I'm 5'11" so probably just a small or medium would do.

• #564
Genetics again and proves that all training is basically useless.

• #565
Last I checked Deep Heat wasn't a numbing spray or have they expanded their range since i was playing soccerballgoaliekickball?
-

Most of the ones that appear on ebay end up going for almost new prices (because I'm either winning it or making sure everyone else pays almost new prices). Some models are actually priced alright new https://www.amazon.co.uk/Therm-a-rest-NeoAir-XLite-Regular-Marigold/dp/B00PZL16XO
I'll be keeping my 3/4 one until I have a full length one to compare. I've also got an older model self-inflating one that doesn't compact down so much and isn't as tall (so works better if bivvy is small).

10milea is very aerobic. I’m not surprised you managed it.

Reminds me I need to get some more bum plasters.
-
• #569
Not the way I ride them..
Raises the question though - what's the point doing intervals if I can just go touring?
-
• #570
Do you have a preferred brand? I never did find the cool ones I found in the US over here.
-
• #572
Nope. I bought some in a pharmacy just below my hotel in g’burg on race day.
If you have a good brand pm me. So I can buy them before everyone else does.
They were very useful. Until they came unstuck. But totally took the discomfort away. Life changing.

I can sell you some of my remaining stash... 2 large for a new Strael :)

Don't know. I felt it was possibly the worst suggestion since a woman in a pharmacy in Tibet recommended Tiger Balm for saddle sores
I flip from extreme laziness to going mental if I don't smash it. That's almost certainly my brain chemicals being fuxxored and would go some way to explain my general moodiness. #getthatfuckeronthelithium
