  • Looks great - a fav.

  • Long grain rice and pak choi tho - culturally appropriated the shit out of it.

  • fusion mate.

  • Did the old weeknight standby of pasta, greens and chilli again last night. Never get bored of this.

Stick spaghetti on to boil. Roughly chop spring greens, a few cloves of garlic and one red chilli. gently fry the garlic and chilli in good olive oil. I find bringing up to a gentle sizzle then turning off and leaving it to infuse in the oil works well to maximise flavour and minimise burned garlic bitterness.

When the pasta's not quite done, turn heat back up in frying pan, drain pasta and bung it in. Mix in the greens and cook out for 5 mins till the pasta and greens are done. Pinch of salt, squeeze of lemon, handful of parmesan and scoff. Then scoff seconds. Then scrape the bits of oil, chilli, garlic and parmesan out of the pan with a bit of bread. Then lie down till the carb-coma subsides. Then wash up.

  • I used to do this a lot, also added onions and lardons... The Asian version with ginger and noodles is equally delicious...

  • *itches. Man, I can't relax till the washing up is done (also, wiped down surfaces, put away toddler related detritus etc)

Makes like interesting when i'm married to someone who can happily veg-out on the sofa surrounded by half empty cups, dirty plates and piles of dirty clothes.

  • she can even sleep with the wardrobe door open.

  • posted this up in the restaurant thread, but will put it here as well

it's our anniversary next monday, and its a week before our first born is due. So looking for a special place to do lunch. Not looking for break the bank pricey, but someplace interesting and memorable, that has a great lunch menu.
We're in Stockwell, and can do public transport/uber, just don't want it to be too far off the beaten track.
    Suggestions welcome..

  • on a different note, finished ugly delicious last week, and I've never felt so angry or bereft when I realised that there were only 8 episodes. Wanted there to be more. And pretty fucking ready right now for Season 2.
Also felt Chang's grouchyness was softened immensely by the episode where he goes home and cooks thanksgiving for his mum. And the fact that she constantly calls him "David Chang" and the "Baby Prince", made him much more agreeable, and hit a number of nerves from my end around mother/son relationships..

  • I had to pause the fried chicken episode to go and get a bucket from KFC.
Not one of my proudest moments.

  • I had to do the same with that McDonalds docco. I was convinced it was some sort of reverse psychology advertising.

  • made me want to start brining and frying chicken immediately

  • Lunch menu at the Ledbury is stunning and surprisingly affordable.

  • As is Alain Ducasse at the Dorchester

  • My inlaws and us have moved in together (we have a child now and they are old so it makes sense.) There are good and bad parts of this but one thing that is pretty intense is that my MIL won't not make dinner every night. Even when I come home super late from work there is a rad plate of food waiting for me. At first I tried to get her to stop because I felt guilty but my wife told me it is just The Japanese Way at least for the older generation and if I refuse she thinks I hate her cooking. ¯\(ツ)

Anyway these are like just a random tuesday night dinners or whatever (are "I'm lucky"-brags cool?)

  • Asian mums in law are worth their weight in gold. Everyone should get one.

  • My MIL could ruin a Findus crispy pancake.

  • Yeah man although I think mine weighs a little less than my cat.

  • I had to google what a findus crispy pancake was but now that I know I wouldn't mind ruining a few of those myself.

  • You say that but no you really, really don't...

  • My MIL uses tinned potatoes
