I bought a Longines that was fitted with too long springbars last year. The case of the watch was badly scratched where the previous owner had trialled and failed to remove the bracelet. He had bent the end pieces and everything. I ended up making the tactical decision to dremel the bracelet off as it was pretty damaged anyway.
I'm sure a proper watch person with proper tools and experience will be able to find a less drastic solution!
