  • So would I. Handsome and well suspended though they may be, there's nothing that special about a Peugeot 306.

  • Turbo diesels were fun

  • I have very rose tinted glasses when it comes to pugs.

Ultimately the xantia wasn't quite as advertised and the small dent in the bonnet turned out to be a very damaged bonnet from folding back on to the roof and damaging that too! Broken bonnet latch at speed...

That and the speedo didn't work, nor did the AC that was meant to work.

Was a shame because it drove beautifully.

  • Not watched it yet so can't comment on the quality but my friend recommended it:

Autofarm restore the last 2.7 RS 911 to leave the factory.

  • Turbo diesels have never been "fun".

    Slow, noisy and stinky, perhaps.

  • Those glasses can be expensive.

That xantia would have pissed me off no matter how well it drove. Was the suspension serviced recently? By that I mean system drain, filled with hydraurinecage and then driven for a week or two then refilled with fresh fluid? If not knock that off any price.

  • It is a turbo diesel kinda fun...definitely not slow or that noisy ;)

EDIT Yellow tinted night driving glasses ;)

  • I've just committed to a new turbo upgrade for my wagon (holset HY35). Excited! and tempted to figure out how to fit it myself

  • Yes, but I've ordered the chrome one with the replaceable filter elements. And a pack of filter elements.

  • Sexeh

  • Are the bits in the filter bits of rust? If it is, I'd look at taking the tank out and then either cleaning or resealing. Have had good experience with POR15 kits from frost. Used on motorbike and car tanks.

Filter wise, they do look good but the filtration level of bits is better with the paper filter. Have had that experience with motorbikes and they have smaller jets to block with bits. Buy a few and keep them in the car. When the filter starts to block, remove old filter and fit new one and carry on.

  • Yep that's my plan. When I change them over I'll pull apart the old filter and see if it's rust. The tank is new though, as are the lines, so I hope it's fine. Just an old filter.

Of course, the issue may be totally different, but that's a rabbit hole for after this attempt at fixing it.

  • Oh didn't know about the new tank. Not used to that on old cars ;)

Next odd question, where did you fill up? Dirty fuel?

  • Forum help?

  • No idea about the battled sump, it is what a few people have mentioned to me to look for when looking at engines, also mentioned running the 1zz sump as that is baffled. These engines don't like any hint of oil starvation. Have you seen pictures of a oil pump that has over revved?

There seem to be issues with the engines burning oil too, few mr2 for sale with that problem. The bore lining can be an issue I have been told.

  • Spotted this little beauty at the weekend, some sort of Riley

Well used, lovely patina(aka "surface rust"), amazing sound from what was probably a straight through exhaust when it left the pub car park.

  • great spot. I love seeing things like that that obviously get enjoyed more that babied.

  • Like taking the petrol mower to the pub. Love it.

  • Surely traditional oil starvation problems caused by g force and problems caused by over-revving are for entirely different reasons?

If you mis-shift and it jumps over the limiter, you're going to have problems with most engines in some way or another.

Like I said, over the course of running Elises and Exiges a few years back I had no problems with oil starvation but maybe I wasn't trying hard enough. Lotus did offer an accusump system as an option which seemed to be pretty popular for people that were using their cars for a lot of track work and were running A048's/R888's or slicks.

  • I have been offered 1,500 bananas for the red mgb shell! evilbay is amazing*. I'd have taken 500.

*until I pull the ad, the dude turns up in a knackered astra and offers me less that the last bid...

  • “Mate, stop coming the raw prawn- the other bid was £1,400”?

  • yeah - but if he is heading over with no intention whatsoever of giving me 1500, then I am snookered. oh well - I have some Porsche wheels I can sell him.

  • Ebay is fucking odd.

I sold midgets that were beyond repair, bought to upgrade the kinpins on an A40 farina, for many times what I paid for them. People won the auction without coming to see the cars.

  • yeah - but if he is heading over with no intention whatsoever of giving me 1500, then I am snookered. oh well - I have some Porsche wheels I can sell him.

I reckon that guy we met last time would be bang-up for helping you to bury a body if you bought some gloves off his mate.

  • Ha. They are actually pretty good guys. They keep an eye on everything.

I am a little concerned about having an almost finished car in that garage. It is pretty open to the main road and up until now it would be a pretty keen thief to nick the shell. A rolling, pretty race car might be a bit more tempting.
