  • In what sense? It's a quirky little place and Anders is a real character. So if you're in town, definitely go check it out.

  • @sykodrama: yes it is, give him a couple of 20kr bills and enjoy all the espresso while you are there.

@russmeyer: I admire all the hacking/bodging! That splash tape reminds me of my old Damocles <3 #splashsommaren2014

  • ^ looks like the same stuff!

Now: paint. In keeping with the bodgery so far, I'm going to brush paint this. I've got red, yellow and dark blue at my disposal. I was thinking of a three or two colour job with vertical borders but now I'm leaning towards a base colour with splatter. Currently going for dark blue base with yellow & red splatter. Opinions?

  • Sanded, primer, sanded again, first coat of blue on.

  • Great stuff Mr Meyer, think I'm going to have to give this a go sometime.

  • Thanks mr Lapland!

Couple of more coats of blue and then slapped some red on. Not sure about any of this but I'll keep going with the yellow as well and see how it looks after that.

  • Well, the whole paint business looked shit. I figure this deserves a £65 powdercoat after all, just dropped it off. Went for a brown/blackish colour with rainbow sparkle. Got new decals from all-city via a friend in the US as they refused to post to Europe.

  • Do they then deserve their branding on this?

  • Any full photos of that bike? It looks rad

  • What else am I going to do with the decals? Could smear some dog turd on them and send them back I suppose.

  • Haha, Just no decals??

  • Now there's an idea. But what am I going to do with all the dog turd I've collected all morning?

Anyway I kind of like the logo. We'll see when it comes back from paint!

  • Wtf, just saw this on radavist. They've got a black & sparkle colour on the stock frames now! My intense, magical years of fixeh riding must have synchronised my mind with the soul of my bike and its creators.

  • I don't want to derail Russ's thread but here you go, apparently I don't have a good photo with the "training wheels":

  • That is rad

  • These ones? ;)

  • While the big block is at the powder coaters, I've entered a couple of mtb races and upgraded my winter commuter with a coke can shim to stop the seatpost slipping. News flash: I know nothing about mtb since I haven't tried it for 20 years.

But it certainly allows for a more scenic (and exhausting) commute!

  • You don't have the ridley anymore? And did I not see pics of a neo-retro somec in the northern wilderness a year ago?

  • I asked this in the AQA thread, but you seem to be a better bet @russmeyer, how is the All-City headbadge attached, and was it a bastard to get off?

  • It's held on by some very gummy double sided tape and yes, it was a bastard to remove. Best tool was a long stanley knife blade and a flat screwdriver. Still managed to make it a little wonky, it's soft alu though so laid it against the headtube and tapped it back into shape with a rubber mallet.

  • cheers for that, do you think that spraying some adhesive solvent would make the task easier?

  • No idea, but it probably couldn't make things any worse 😉

  • Heading north over the weekend. I've established that it's ok to take the bike up to 120 km/h, should I feel the need.

  • Passed the Ridley on years ago by now, then moved on to a Gazelle. But you are most correct about the Somec I got built last summer:
