  • Dredge.

I'm going to California in a few weeks, and kinda want to try wild camping. I've car camped quite a lot, but want to spend the odd night in the middle of nowhere (fiancee's 30th, for example!). We're planning for a trip to Sequoia National Park at the end of May.

It'll likely be pretty cold and it's at altitude, so I want to gather a list of things that we'll need that I've not thought of, to determine if this is a stupid idea. We'd likely not spend 2 consecutive nights camping, would most likely be hike out, spend night, hike back to car for proper food and night 2.

What do I need, and what should I look for in a tent, stove etc?

  • You'll need a permit to wildcamp in the US National Parks and you'll have to invest in a food storage system to keep the bears away from the tent.
