Heh, well if you are going to summon me with a "oh come on" "this is not helpful"... I'm going to look into it :)
It is helpful... pages are measurably about 3x faster across the entire site.
For images presently on HTTP or with SSL errors I'm redirecting to those and letting your browser decide whether or not it cares to load them.
I'm presently seeing that no valid image URL is being blocked or dropped, and that 95.1% benefit from being proxied and cached.

And so it begins. Built the tent with the help of dad- it's attached to his workshop, which forms one wall, then loads of 4x2 and a massive tarp. Out some boards down, to make it easier to work under the car. Had a good dig around, and found a couple of spots o the chassis that need welding, but really nothing terrible. It's all quite sound, and the front end is actually mush straighter than I thought it was. The crumpled bumper made it look far worse than it was. Have decided to replace the brakes throughout with new discs, pads, drums and shoes. Car has been well undersealed, so the underside is generally in good condition. I think it had a lot of work done, including the suspension etc, shortly before it was abandoned on the farm. A lot of it looks quite new. Next stage is to straighten the front, and start welding chassis and wheel arches.
I'm considering a 2 inch lift, as ground clearance is quite low. Would also couple this with a slightly bigger tyres, which would help make the gears a bit longer. It's only a 4 speed transmission, and apparently the revs are pretty high, even cruising at 60mph. Any thoughts/ advice on this?

Bigger wheels/tyres would help slightly with the revs. Do you really care though, are you foreseeing long m-way drives? In general my armchair advice would be get it driving first then make your own assessment.

Can only offer thoughts (and prayers), but definitely lift. It will look rad.
I sometimes pass a sick old Ford Bronco with a lift kit. Will get some photos for the forum next time.

Started getting a dodgy burning smell from the Volvo, started shitting myself but was also partly confused because my brain was adamant it was toast, oh fuck I am having a stroke, oh fuck oh fuck, pop bonnet, there's half a baguette wedged between rocker cover and bonnet.
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?

Isn't this the reason people rotate their tachs?

Funniest thing in this thread for ages. Neil certainly passed the baton on.

I found an iced bun under my bonnet once, next to the battery. It was pretty stale. Toyota Yaris, 1999, 1.0. Perhaps its a factory specced extra?

Isn't it cause they saw it on some tool's YouTube vlog and insta and thought it looked cool.
Or is it an actual real thing?

The new frozen sausage?
-
• #41748
It was a common thing to do on race cars so the red line was straight up. I think a lot of classic 911 race cars had that and GT40s, but certainly not restricted to just those cars.

• #41749
Maybe the baguette was being used to hold the sausage, and fell out?

I've heard that old bush pilots used to do the same for all the engine gauges - at cruise everything should be pointing straight up, so you can see at a glance if anything's not running as it should.
Because the stock wheel doesn't extend far enough/is not close enough to the driver.
