But that means you would have to climb up to Mangart first and then turn around to come down via the 902 and climb again via the 206?
That's my interpretation.
Gotta get up to get down. -

From the race manual:
"Riders will be pleased to hear that the majority of this parcours is downhill, but this is only because it begins at the top of Slovenia’s highest road – Mangart Česta, which leads up to the 2,072m Mangart saddle, overlooked by Slovenia’s third highest peak, Mangart itself, commanding dizzying views of the Julian Alps and Italy’s Fusine lakes."

Just sorted mine too! Makes it seem far more real.
Going to have to write some sort of training plan down now as I'm not getting enough mid week riding in as I'd like.
Ordered some 3T clipon aero bars and a new saddle. Going to need to go get a, errrr , top up bike fit so I can get a decent but not too aggressive tt position going on.
Should have a Garmin 1000 on the way soon also. Realised that I probably won't be able to use an out front mount. Any recommendations for mounts that go between the aero extensions? Whatchu usin? -

If you’d like riding company, I’m in SE4. Quite interested in entering if it runs next year so curious to find out about preparation etc.
Think you’d posted about doing London - Bournemouth as well at some point. -

Zipp dona good one.

For sure! Everything is a bit crazy with work and family life at the moment but will certainly take you up on that offer when things calm down a little.

£9.95 from Halfrauds too. Good price for you sir! One on the way!
-
• #310
Yeah. Might want to put a little tape in the cradle bit, to give upwards pressure to prevent it rattling.

@7ven I'm in sw2 and would appreciate some rides and preparation chat

@dogu Happy to join you to if you'd like company.

if you'd like company.
If you like company the TCR might not be the best event!
-
• #314
Of course but I also think some people might like company for training.
I know I’d probably prefer to bivvy with someone for the first time or riding through the night etc. -

Jesus, I don't half ask a lot of questions do I!
What a steep steep learning curve but would rather get these questions out of the way now than have my shit not work or break in deepest darkest Albania.I've got a Garmin 1000 on the way next week. As I understand it, I need a micro USB with a right angled head on it for charging whilst on the bike. My question really relates to is the right angled head likely to work its way loose and any good bodges for keeping it in place? Also after recommendations for some decent brands of cables. Cheers

If it's between aerobars, normal cable is fine.
-
• #317
It will be, yes!
Cool, thanks! -
• #318
oem garmin cable is pretty robust, but as with anything, take 2. And be careful when inserting it, if done in situ, that you don't bend the head.
Plus don't charge if it's raining as water might get in port then. Keep the flap closed.

Mine has never come loose.
-
• #320
It's not waterproof even with the flap closed #fuckinggarmin. Put your SD card in and never open it again, electrical tape over it. Only charge in the dry.

Cheers gents!

Hi all...long-time lurker, first-ish time poster here. Also down for the TCR this year.
So my Garmin finally and actually crapped out on me the other day. Complete death. While annoying, it's forced open an opportunity to explore devices that would be good for TCR-esque endurance cycling. I've seen navigation mentioned a few times in this thread, but thought it would be really valuable to hear from folks --- particularly those who have done a lot this kinda thing before --- specifically about good setups.
My own two cents right now... I wasn't massively impressed by the Garmin Edge (1000) that's just passed away. Touchscreen a bit annoying on-the-go; not good with rain / sweat; screen a bit hard to see at times; battery life a bit meh. Had it not died, I would still probably be using it for TCR, but now it's gone I've been looking at the Wahoos, either Element or Element Bolt. Battery life looks alright; they seem quite straightforward and easy to use. Potentially some concerns about how effectively they navigate relative to Garmins, but not sure how much of an issue that would really be. Then for pure functionality, also thinking about the Extrex...
I don't really know at the moment. But would love views, if they're out there.

I commented before that One potential issue with the wahoo is that you can't do new routes on the fly if you don't have a data connection on your phone/WiFi.

If you do get an extrex make sure you have a cord to attach it to the handlebars in addition to the Etrex mount as they have a tendency to launch themselves from the handlebars when you hit a bump.
