Is Abdullah going to overcook it? He's not sleeping a lot and doesn't look like he has the pedigree of Stephane or a few others in the pack behind.

I would say yes. His character is brash / bravado / all guns blazing.
But could be wrong. he seems mentally tough - but yeh unproven at this level. But he knows what it takes having followed the pointy end of the race last year. -

In awe.

I was thinking: he's local whereas Steph may struggle with Aussie weather/food more.

Lucifer didn't bother him in tcr5. He's nails.
-
• #1207
Where he finish last year in tcr?
-
• #1208
Not necessarily the heat but the wind or the flies or whatever is out there. I dunno, I'm not silly enough to fly over there to find out... this year.

9th. Don't think he's ever been far from top 10.

It's a good lead but with these kind of distances, there are all kinds of things that can slow people down. Dicky knees, saddle sores, sleep deprivation, broken spokes, bogan drivers...

Pretty sure she hid from him too at one point.
I saw pictures of her hiding behind Evan Deutsch...

:)
Off tangent, but I enjoyed the recent 'Path Less Pedaled' interview with Lael. It's quite meandering, she talks about future riding in different countries and mentions Transcontinental in passing. She also feely admits that Evan was a help in that particular race because she wasn't properly used to road riding. -

That was my Saturday night for years.

Me too, haha.

Abdullah is 5km/h roughly slower today. He had the headwind yesterday as well yeah?
-
• #1219
He’s on the Nullarbor..
-
• #1220
Interesting few hours ahead.
Stéphane definitely seems stronger just now slowly reeling in
abdullah will need to break the 500km or 20 hour ride time ritual right about now. Be interesting to see what he goes for distance or time distance will mean roughly by today’s speed another 8 hours on the saddle. That could dig a real big hole.
-
• #1221
Where he is today is a bit hillier, but the wind could easily account for 5km/h
-
• #1222
Obviously not if Stephane isn't affected. He could be knackered!

Just looked at the tracker and it looks like Abdullah is riding and stephane is stopped, and the gap is 170km - which is what it was when I last looked a couple of days ago.
Abdullah still looks in control to me -
• #1224
This might explain the slowing down..

Gave up trying to watch that. What’s he saying?
Wonder if Dolan know. Hmm I’ll tweet
