I would also do a light wrapping around the thumb like a boxer, but don't tape the knuckles.
This might be a silly question but what does the tape around the wrists help with? Also what kind of tape?
I bought some 1” zinc oxide tape, quite adhesive and wide to offer some additional support to reduce the flex in the wrists and hopefully reduce the impact of the cobbles repeatedly flexing them or worse over extending them.
Your wrists really take a battering. Mine hurt for about 6 weeks. I had double bar tape, and a lovely steel bike that absorbed quite a lot.
I really would recommend a light bandage with electrical tape reasonably tight over the top
