• My parents kitchen/dining room:
Mum asks for acoustic regulation. Too harsh noise reflection.
Sound absorbing boeads between the beams are not an option.
    Any suggestions?

I have suggested more paintings and carpets.

  • Why no panels? Acoustic rockwool panels on the ceiling or walls are basically the only real option (short of filling the room with soft furnishings and people). As you’re not worrying about controlling bass, you can get away with the thinner panels and these days there are less industrial looking options.

You could start with a large thick rug (maybe backed with underlay too) but hard parallel surfaces are always going to have this issue.

  • Thin rockfon panels is the absolutely most sensible solution, but dad has spend insane amounts of time and effort to get the ceiling as high as possible and he claims not to be bothered with the bad acoustics. I will still try to persuade him, but we are looking for low hanging fruits atm.
