Nice one - if I get a table I’ll be there from 1.30, tall guy in a maroon sweater

Not in central but Aside in Peckham is supposed to do an excellent roast. That’s probably really not helpful
Maybe not, but it's a nice aside. :)

Just arrived fuckers busy!!! Seems word has definitely got around..
-

Got a few seats in the window - very busy, but worth it, the pork belly to share was fantastic and worth the wait after many years of cycling past it. Sorry to have missed you though - how was it?

Was great! On a table over in the corner at the back. Had the fried chicken to start, beef pie to share for the main (the cabbage and mash it comes with is woefully small for two people) and the banana bread and ice cream to finish...
Really good. Coming back in two weeks to do it all again with the outlaws... -

Reasonable Japanese/Sushi places central please ~ £40 per head?
-
• #859
D'oh, missed 'Central' requirement. Anyway
Much cheaper - Zaibatsu in Greenwich
More expensive - Sticks and Sushi in Greenwich -

Chotto Matte is good

• #862
I'm not a fan of sticks and sushi, they serve mediocre quality fish on ice thus making it ice cold on the tongue and robbing it of any of its flavour.
Chotto Matte is pretty decent, they do a lot of fusion stuff as it's Japanese/Peruvian, and not amazing quality in my opinion, but it's a good dining out experience.
As a qualifier, I'm not a fan of all the sushi dishes where there's about 7 different types of fish draped over each other and then covered in sauces and crispy onion. Good quality fish should speak for itself and this sort of flagrant dress-up is just an attempt at masking fish that would be immediately recognised as being mediocre in flavour and cut.

Define central :)
This place is great (well, it was when we went a few years ago! Reviews indicate it's still good)

Found http://www.shimogamo.co.uk/ on Parkway decent or there's http://asakusa.co.uk/ by Mornington Crescent (although there are rumours of new owners there so not sure if it is still up to scratch).
Both fairly traditional places.

I've been to the one in Greenwich a few times and the quality of fish has been excellent apart from one visit where it was pretty ordinary. Maybe a bit of pot luck depending on what they bought that morning?

what's up with the shouting thing when you walk in in the door in japanese restaurants? Shoryu in kingly court does this as well. stop it.
-
• #868
It’s a customary greeting thing.

Do people actually go to Yo Sushi? I think not.
Actually very helpful - my mate lives in Camberwell so we're gonna chance our arm with a walk in at the Camberwell arms (hi @cornelius_blackfoot) and if not that sounds like a good backup. Thanks both
