  • I bought a knock off grip for my X-pro 1 because Fuji film are idiots and made they're official one:

    1. Far to expensive
    2. Without access to the battery door
  • I had the official one for the X-Pro1, it doesn’t fit the 2

  • This is the one I have. Fits the Arca swiss tripod plate

  • Just grabbed a panasonic LX100. Any thoughts?

  • I've only used the earlier model, but that was fantastic. I'm tempted on a Ricoh GRII... should I?

  • Yeah, I don't think that I would have bought it separately. But I got both for a super fair price and now I'm happy to have it :)
The one for the X-Pro2 is spared out for the battery

  • I received the OM to Fuji X-mount adapter today, it now works like a real rangefinder, haha.
Shot of bike was taken on the Zuiko 50mm f/1.8. The camera is such a huge step up from the RX100M3!

  • From the digital photography thread:

I have a question - I'm going to Singapore and Malaysia for a study trip in a couple of weeks.
I've promised to take pictures for our report.
I have Nikon D700 and I'd prefer to just bring one lens - but which one to take?
    I have a 28mm f2.0 AIS, a 35mm f2.8 AI and a Carl Zeiss 50mm f1.4.
    Any input is appreciated.

I expect it to be kind of general reportage - documenting the companies we visit and other activities.
I've used the 35mm and 50mm the most.

  • yes, buy mine

  • Using adapted MF lenses on the Fuji system (or any mirrorless) is a total joy. And that Oly 50mm is one of the sharpest and cheapest out there. Makes a great 75mm equivalent portrait lens.

  • A: none of the above. Get a zoom. What you loose in speed, you gain in versatility (and high ISO capabilities). My pick would be the old 28-105mm 3.5-4.5. A great lens even on the D750.

  • If you take both the 28mm and the 50mm, then you've got a useful amount of separation between the lenses and you can use whichever's best for the conditions.

If you stick with taking a single prime, then the 35mm is probably the most versatile. If you're inside a lot the 50mm might be too l0ng, but if you're trying to pick out details or do portraits then the 28mm might be too wide.

Really depends what you're hoping to achieve, though.

  • It’s tempting but I’m quite keen on WiFi. Being able to send files from the camera straight to iPad is tempting, I’d love to remove the laptop for casual snaps

  • Fair point - I'm a student and have already spent quite a bit of money on the trip, so won't be buying anything.

@h2o I'm torn between doing the sensible thing - taking the 35 - and just taking the 28 because I haven't used it a lot.

Mostly I'd like to bring one lens so I won't have to constantly worry about changing lenses.

  • To be honest, you'll probably be fine with the 28mm. It's a nice focal length too, and not all that much wider than 35mm. I wouldn't take the 50mm alone, it'll be too constraining indoors.

  • I caved and ordered the F1.4 23mm, I use my F2 23mm far more than any of my other lenses.

  • Quite a weight/size penalty for 1 stop. With Fuji I found that the bigger the lens the slower they focus. I havent taken single photo on the Fuji this year but 18mm remains my fav Fuji lens.

If 23 is your fav focal length, X100f should be the tool of choice IMO. Size, weight, leaf shutter, price.

  • I have an X100f with me as I type this, I do like the flexibility of the X-Pro 2 though

  • 28 or at a push 35.

28 is fun for street stuff though perhaps 35 preferable 'traditionally', but if you're doing any skylines/buildings etc (where in KL/SGP etc it's largely skyscrapers) you'll want that extra width (though you may notice some distortion) but that's the trade off to be made if you're not able to bring a zoom. On that note, could you rent or borrow one?

  • A: none of the above. Get a zoom. What you loose in speed, you gain in versatility (and high ISO capabilities). My pick would be the old 28-105mm 3.5-4.5. A great lens even on the D750.

Yup. Even if i'm traveling I'll take a zoom and a prime. I use the Canon equivalent, the old Canon 28-105mm 3.5-4.5, which I'll use when I'm out specifically for photography. I'll stick the 40mm f2.8 (tiny) pancake on when I want something discreet or I'm out for the night

  • I'm not keen on spending more money, and I don't think I'd be comfortable borrowing someone's gear for that length of time and trip.

I feel pretty certain by now, that I'll take the 35.
It was the first lens that I used on my D700 and used it as normal lens for quite a while before I got the 50.

  • Correct.

  • I've got a fairly crap Canon 450d and the autofocus seems to be really really bad. I suck at manual focus unless I'm allowed to zoom to 10x on the live display and fiddle for a minute.

What do I do? Learn to manual focus? Get glasses? Buy a new camera body? Mess with the firmware?

  • What do I do?

Just take blurry pictures and tell people it's "art".
