• I wonder if you still have those 155mm Rotor Cranks?

  • Yes, I've still got them.

  • My power2max NG is pissing me off. It's starting dropping off, showing zero, usually when I am doing my best shit, or near the end of a workout. Just starts reading as zero power for either a few seconds or sometimes 30 seconds. Power2max are trying to blame my Garmin. Problem is I have no second garmin to corroborate with.

Anyone had something like this before? HR and speed work fine.

  • Do you use them or would you rather sell them on? I have a youth rider who could use something like this.

  • Do you have a Garmin ANT+ dongle and trainerroad or similar app that can also record power data?

  • I've been hanging onto them for ages because I had the idea they might help my hip problems but I've not used them thus far and run Hollowgrams on the race bike now. Maybe I should stop being a crank hoarder and part with them.

  • Which model are they and what sort of price would you consider? She has a standard BSA bottom bracket but I think most Rotor cranks can fit that.

  • From memory they're 3D+ (30mm spindle) and don't have a spider since they were from a P2M powermeter setup (pretty sure I already sold the spider). £220 for these.

  • Problem is I have no second garmin to corroborate with.

Pair with the Strava app and run concurrently.

  • I do, and I tried but signal isn't the best, it shows other dropouts on top of the ones recorded by the garmin

Pair with the Strava app and run concurrently.

Will try that, but I assume that uses bluetooth? I'm guessing its a ANT+ problem, and my phone doesn't have it.

  • Do you know anyone with a Sony phone, spare Garmins or an ANT+ dongle you can borrow?

Which Garmin is yours? Do you have it set to 1s recording and not Smart recording?

  • That's a good price for 3D+ but I was after a 3D24 at a good price. Thanks for taking the time.

  • Oh right, what makes you think it's an Ant+ problem? The NG has both BLE and Ant+ right? If it drops power readings over BLE too then you know it's the NG at fault. Have you tried a fresh battery, especially if you store the bike outside?

  • Sorry to hear about your problems - alternatively you might want to try disabling bluetooth on the Garmin and maybe get your phone to forget the PM too.

I did have dropouts with the old the firmware but the new one cured it for me...

  • I just figured it was a broadcasting issue. I have no means to record via BLE, my garmin is old and only has ANT+. Is there an app on my phone that can connect to it? The battery is rechargable.

It was working perfectly fine until I did the firmware update. But it could just be a coincidence. I have no idea

Precise opposite for me! Old firmware was fine, new one not. Will try making my phone forget the PM though, is the best way to do that to uninstall the P2m app? I need bluetooth on the phone on for my earphones.

It's just in the bluetooth settings on Android... Good luck.

  • Got a laptop? See what the readings are like when you use your Ant+ USB stick.

  • No laptop, but did discover RideWithGPS android app can pair with a powermeter and record via bluetooth. Some extra spice for tonights turbo fun.

  • Can lend you my spare garmin if you need?

  • Thanks, but I may have already solved it, thanks to @Goyt . Unpaired the p2m from phone app and this evenings session had no drop outs. Need to do a few more before I can be sure obviously, but the last 5 sessions before tonights had drop outs, so am optimistic.

  • DC Hovis breadmaker has risen.

  • So my power drop outs issue has returned, hence the second Garmin. Today's turbo session involved dropouts with both my units, but at different times... So I'm now coming to the conclusion that there's nothing wrong with the p2m, or either garmin, but perhaps it's a signal interference issue? Is that a thing.

I live in a block of flats, and I have my fair share of WiFi and Bluetooth shiz going on, can they interfere with ant+? it is a plausible explanation if so.

  • That doesn't make sense. If it was signal failure neither unit would receive the data.

Did you check the recording setting? Are you sure they're at different times? Did you start the two units recording at the same time?
