So it's now a month and a half since leaving the workshop, and my bedroom floor back in the UK is a big mess, with the Chinese leather patcher in a corner between the desk and some other stuff. We just got back from a week in Milan, where the gf was working at Lineapelle translating for a man that runs a few big factories in the South of China. She managed to get me a pile of samples that he was otherwise throwing away, so a very heavy carry-on bag, and I have some material to play with - both leather and synthetic.
Also popped to one of the shops in Chinatown and picked up a half dozen coloured threads for the machine. 80 cents per roll of 800m of coloured thread - cheaper than buying online anywhere.
Hope to have something to show in the near future. Must pop to @danb for the rest of the material too, and buy a bunch more side release buckles online.
