The problem seems to be with the faith and culture, not the child.

Isn't that something that is overdue for a change?
This is the 21st Century. Not the dark ages.@greenhell 's response ^^^^ expresses similar, in a different way.

No not pierced ears. It’s purely aesthetic, plastic surgery to make her ear more “normal” looking due to a haemangioma.
My point is parents do what they think is right and best for their kids on the whole within cultural and societal norms which of course change. To me a ban seems worse than better regulation and safer practices.

I like the atheist cock tattoo argument.
I also now want the tattoo. How much would it hurt to get "atheist" tattooed in my foreskin?

Yeah, I do agree that a ban does seem worse than better regs and safer practices. Though guess I personally feel that we are way to apologetic to religion. Dunno how many muslims/jewish/americans in Iceland but if cutting off baby foreskin is not in their culture then perhaps a ban for them is more acceptable than say the same ban in the UK.
(Though is it not in their culture to kill whales and seals. They can cut that shit out).

SEXIST!!
You're right.
I thought we were talking about circumcision.
But it is broader than that.ETA - Edited accordingly.

None whatsoever.
Also that infant will be deprived of crispy bacon for the duration of its childhood, and be forced to wear a skullcap, and mumble prayers before and after eating, be forced to light candles on Hanukka, and eventually fast on Yom Kippur... I could go onThough admittedly none of the above is as painful and irreversible as a chopped off foreskin.

So 21st century. We're no different or more enlightened or better than our ancestors in many ways

We're not arguing because in general I agree with you re the barbarism of genital mutilation.
But I am also able to understand the view of my brother and family who hold that circumcision is a sacred duty

Paragraph 4 -
Darby describes these theories as "conflicting", and states that "the only point of agreement among proponents of the various theories is that promoting good health had nothing to do with it."
Maybe I'm a fast reader.
Ahhhh. Pierced ears! :)
If your culture has deemed this to be OK and you feel that it's acceptable then go ahead. Though culture can change and you may be called out on it by your daughter (she may grow up and not be too pleased with her folks imposing their image of femininity on her).
Culture is separate from religion but it should still be called out upon when it is realised that it is doing something wrong (FGM is cultural in some societies and slavery was once acceptable to many).
