  • Yeah exactly, you get similar for rear reflector that come in all sorts of size. They work surprisingly well.

  • Don't buy it.

Just walk into a bicycle shop and ask for one.

Other option is to loose one link from the chain.

  • Depends on whether you want the chain completely surrounded or not, but these work well to prevent chain drop to the inside.

  • (Crap phone) sneak peek pic of almost finished '48 project. Built in Manchester by olympic medalist and 20's/30's track star. Still some fettling to do.

  • Pengy? Is that you?

  • Great grandfather of Penge, the mummified tarck of The North.

  • I've dropped too many Allen keys not to pipe-lag builds now.

  • That's lovely, very very jealous

  • Phase 2 of my 1xbeater build:

    48t oval n/w -> 50t round n/w
Sram X5 mech -> Campag veloce

Successful test ride, apart from a slow puncture and the fact Kally Uno stems flex like crazy.

  • Such a slick build. Just curious, why did you switch from Sram to Campag? Was the Srampagnolo setup not working 100%? (just bought a set of ergos to do +- the same)

  • I didn't really give it a chance, to be honest.

Firstly, I forgot to add any kind of inline adjustment (no barrel adjuster on the mech or frame), and then decided to put the mech on my 1x CX bike before I got round to fitting the inline adjuster.

Shifting was pretty decent considering the zero adjustment, though. I would've kept the SRAM mech on there had I not had a better application for it - I reckon the adjuster would've been able to achieve 100% shifting.

  • I guess I'll still give it a shot with the Sram mech, got a Chorus (+ Campag wheel) if that doesn't work out

  • Kally Uno stems flex

Chooses stem based on light weight. Complains about flex.

There's no magic, all forged aluminium AHead stems have about the same diameter on the extension, so stiffness just becomes a function of wall thickness i.e. weight.

I haz Look HSD carbon for sellz if you want super stiff 🙂

  • Hey nice marketing, are you in bike business? ;)

  • Chooses stem based on light weight.

Incorrect! Minimum cost was my search criteria.

Anyway.. the flex makes me think I'm putting out serious power - the psychological benefit of which helps me produce even more watts.

  • I'm already swapping mine - flex scares me = I won't be able to put out crazy wattage like I'm supposed to.

  • Yeah, already changed mine. Only a matter of time before I snap it like a twig whilst dropping my fellow commuters with a thigh-melting, 328W sprint.

  • Whose thighs are melting from 320w? A gnat?

  • If you're accusing the Priory Lane Peleton of being a bunch of gnats, then.. yes.

  • are you in bike business?

    ...ish

  • Very quickly putting together this to take to my parents' place. Picked up the frame last week on close-out, stripped parts from some other bikes and hurried built up.

Test ride was fun, now needs some finishing touches - change of tyres perhaps - need to check how wet the weather has been, tape, change of cassette and finally boxing & shipping.

  • That's ace. Does the Straggler have (semi)-horizontal dropouts?

I spend the afternoon battling a stuck BB with @Vince 's advice and a few days soaking the area in Plusgas.

In the end I used a trigger clamp to hold the tool in place, then applied a big spanner and a bar

After a large amount of grunting, it came free, leaving this on the drive side

    And this on the NDS

Note the remnants of the plastic cup I'd drilled away to nothing. The bottom bracket itself had seen better days

But all the threads look OK and should be fine once chased. Can anyone recommend a DIY method? Cutting a groove into an old BB cup so the gunge has somewhere to escape?

Buoyed by my victory, I couldn't resist mocking up the build I'm planning

  • Well done! It is satisfying, isn't it?

I usually clean the threads with degreaser and a firm toothbrush - it is sufficient "chasing" if the threads aren't damaged.

  • That's a really lovely colour
