Moral of the story: Don’t pay via PayPal gift.
Which is @Velocio 's official policy.

Ban should remain for at least 6 months (preferably life).
Ain’t nobody got time for that bullshit.
-
• #4729
Glad you got your money back man. You shouldn’t edit the details, people should be able to read what’s happened so they know not to deal with him.
-

thanks guys. i'll bury the blame on sending the money as a gift. at least there is a good story (with a happy ending) on here to reference if anyone needs it.

Damn...i'd just ordered in a big consignment of popcorn. I thought this would be a runner.

Oh and for entertainment purposes I don't mind playing the part of a bad trader. All I need is for someone to sell me a 1 inch threaded fork with 240mm steerer (drilled for brake) not top end just serviceable which I won't pay for for about three weeks.
Everyone can call me out, i'll even take a short ban and then i'll pay for the fork. That way we get a bit of bad trader titillation and i get a goddam fork! -

Have you left a few clues as to your real identity we can use to dig out some photos of you off social media?

Tongue was firmly in cheek.
Glad to see this turned out with a happy ending. -

Exactly.
Now we’re all going on about a ban for the seller. No rebuke for buyer, who ignored policy and paid via gift. Hmm...
-
• #4737
That's not really what I meant. A lot of the times unsuspecting buyers are persuaded by shady sellers to pay as a gift, with the above consequences. I wouldn't put too much blame on these buyers, other than having faith in people. The way I see it, Velocio's policy was put in place to just prevent this mess all together, definitely to protect the buyer. Not everyone knows about it though.
-
• #4738
I hear you.
Still, I reckon both seller and buyer were in the wrong. I felt, however, the vitriol levelled at the seller was nasty and vicious - particularly digging up photos - with a real mob mentality vibe.
Why can’t we put too much blame on buyers who pay via gift, then moan when the anonymous person they’ve just gifted a load of dosh to doesn’t live up to all their promises?
-
• #4739
Seller behaved like a weasel cunt.
Buyer went all guns blazing and got a result where others may have given up and let the weasel cunt away with their cash.
I think you’re on your own with this one.

Fair enough.

Here’s me hoping you never get called for jury service.
-

FWIW I agree with you somewhat; mocking his appearance doesn't really resolve the problem of him stealing money off someone. However, in that situation the buyer is merely naive/optimistic compared to a seller who is cruel/evil/a criminal/whatever. It's like old ladies who get tricked into giving their money to a Nigerian scammer.

I have no sympathy for those that want to lie, cheat, and steal. I gave the benefit of the doubt, gave time, and did everything I could to resolve the issue fairly. Only when it was taken further did I see results - and was still given a multitude of bullshit excuses.
I’m certainly to blame for paying a perfect stranger as a gift - but I’ve accepted responsibility for it since the beginning.

Policy? It’s a fucking Internet forum, not eBay.
Where do you stand on hi-viz? Or is your victim blaming specific?
-
• #4745
All snowflakes, listen!
I've said it before, but the beauty of this simple, Internet forum, is that it is self policing. If someone is being a cunt, they're a cunt.
If the person doing the 'cunt-calling' is being a cunt, he/she will get called out, generally.Does anyone think that the issue above would have been solved without the detective work/mob mentality of some forum users?
Get a fucking grip. The bloke was either too lazy, or was having it away with the money.
Look at the thread title...... -

It’s a little misleading and emotive to equate my assertion, that fault lay with both buyer and seller, with a hi-vis argument and victim-blaming. My discomfort was with the witch-hunt that ensued, rather than apportioning blame.
The use of the word ‘policy’ was not mine initially.

Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?
This has all been a particularly unsavoury incident. Naughty of OP not to send goods. Silly of buyer to pay via gift. Pretty nasty internet-shaming type vibe took-hold.
Moral of the story: Don’t pay via PayPal gift.
Edit: and a successful NPF. D’oh
