Thanks. Used both. Turns out it's magnetised enough to turn a CRT funny colours.

Tried that once with a Seiko 5. No damage, no degauss.
Will look for one of those funny demagnet magnets

Steel strap arrived this morning, I’ve been wearing it on a croc Hirsch for the last week

How much manetism is too much?
I tried the Lepsi app on an awfully slow skx and the magnitude raised from 46 to 66. -

I stand corrected. That looks great

A couple of weeks ago, while hiking on holiday, the crystal popped out of my Smiths Everest (Timefactors). The crystal wasn't knocked or anything asI had my sleeves rolled up and was walking along a fairly open path but it just popped out and landed in a pile of sludgy muddy snow. I had a full days hike ahead of me so in order to protect the face I wiped the crystal down as best as I could (not very well) and popped it back in.
This seems to be a reasonably common problem with the Everest watch which is a shame because I really enjoy wearing it.
I'm now scared to wear the watch as I don't want the crystal popping out again, and the crystal also has some dirt inside which I now can't remove having shoved the crystal back in.
What is the best way to get this fixed - try to send it back to timefactors or find someone to service the watch? Some forums seem to say I should just glue it back myself but I have no idea what I'm doing and I'd rather someone "proper" does it.
@ejay I'm reasonably local to you - do you service as well as sell? I also have an old Omega that needs looking at.

Eddie at Timefactors is taking a break due to serious ill health in the family. That said, he should be back soon I think.
Alsal would do it.
Were you at altitude when it happened?

I take it back, that looks great

Alsal would do it.
Sadly not in London but IIRC I'm not to far from Ejay's shop.
Were you at altitude when it happened?
Actually yes. Not very high (c.2000m) but it happened within an hour or so of getting to that altitude. I hand't considered that.

Everest

I had a roll on deodorant eject its ball like a cannon at just under 2000m a few weeks ago. Wouldn't be amazed if it happens to other things with a reasonable pressure seal too.
When I have bought watches at 1600m I have been advised that they might need tweaking at London altitude to keep good time. Have never noticed it in reality though.

We all take it back. Bracelet looks great...

ahem...
FWIW I like the bracelet look and anyway, you’ll be wearing it so don’t listen to these bedwetters :p
But IMO don’t bother with an aftermarket bracelet. Save up for the real deal. Find the model and go hunting, it’ll take a while to find one at the right price but it’ll be worth it. -

Mate that looks the business - is that an Omega bracelet?
-
• #25794
Yeah it is, much scouring of eBay turned one up from Austria. The seller knocked 25% off too, thumbs up

Still prefer the leather but the bracelet looks ace too.

That's the fist watch in pages and pages of this thread that has made me feel jealous.
I find that fifteen or twenty sharp whacks with a lump hammer works well to degauss a piece of ferrous metal.
