We all got loakes for my wedding (me, my dad and brother) to go with the kilt, but they also work well with a nice rough wool/tweed suit etc.
Anyway suppose what kind of brogues you want? meermin are great but they look more of a 'sharp' look perhaps.
DJ is right though, get a classic look and they will last for years. I also think you might get them thinking you'll wear them once a year, and find yourself wearing them an awful lot more.
I'm going to my brother in law's wedding in march and want to get a nice pair or brogues that I can keep and wear once a year whenever I need to wear a suit. Am looking at Grenson's. Any other brands I should be looking at?
