If you buy any known brand used it's unlikely to lose value but in terms of 'investment' I'm not sure. Maybe a 60's jag/jazz, or something more recent but ltd edition and leave it in a cupboard for 50 years?
A few years ago I would have said get an original 70s/80s analog synth but the modern reissues and glut of new models have frozen prices for a while now. -

I bought some weird stuff from Macari's in the '80s - e.g a fretless bass and a clear perspex body 6 string.

I have had good service when I knew someone working there but even then I got shafted on price on a trade-in (I was young and naive).
Most of my experiences there were just annoying. Arcane opening hours, missing price tags, shop assistants not interested in helping, etc. -

I think this is a good bet. Weird that Teles were bottom of the range and now go for lots more than top-of-the-range Jags etc.

Lesser-known 70s Gibson?
-

Haha! I've wanted one for years, the aluminium body and lace sensors give it a very particular sound. They used to pop up for sale occasionally around the 2-3k mark in the mid-00s but I never had the money then (or now really!).

Right I have had enough of this - time to wake up some Australian residents ...

for a few years now people have been hoarding the early Japanese replicas and some have been moving to Korean, it might be the next Japan...
anyway, look for the best Greco and early Tokai les pauls, they will only go one way
anything from the Fuji Gen factory and Matsumoku factory from 70s and 80s will also be worth seeking out.

Space echo tape loops and refurb bits arrived from australia today so I fitted a new tape after work. It sounded ok but not great, with shit loads of flutter - almost every repeat sounded a bit Edith Piaf. Changed all the felts and fiddled with some tensions and suddenly it’s a new machine! I’m almost getting the hype...

Shaun Williamson came in to look for a guitar for his son, which was hilarious for a fan of Extras, and he was a lovely guy
He almost ran over my uncle in Dartford once.

I loved Jay, was so sad when he left the band... Devastated when he passed away, so young...
Edit: Hang on, he isn't on this! Didn't he join for Being There?

Isn’t that him on the left with the tele?

You're 100% right, I fast forwarded, only watched for a minute and didn't see him... Watching properly now, fantastic... I didn't see this tour, saw the Being There and Summer Teeth tours and maybe the one after that but I kinda lost interest when Jay left...

Watching this now, fully down the rabbit hole... I seem to remember Sunken Treasure was half lifted from a Peter Laughner tune (just checked, it was Misunderstood)... Love this period so much...

That was great ^, couldn't take my eyes off the screen for the whole show...
New bridge arrived, looks like a solid bit of kit... Really hope this sorts the problem out...

^Tasty!
Went to a shop yesterday to try a bass amp I fancied. They were perfectly sweet, showed me to a soundproof room and left me completely alone. This threw me so off balance that I bought it.

what's it being pointed at?
I really miss the load of 2nd hand guitar shops we used to have in Birmingham in the 90s, loads of variety, loads of it at the lower end of the spectrum too, not just collectors stuff. You could just turn up and play a few things for an afternoon, many an impromptu practice was had!
We had a shop that just sold 2nd hand basses. Crazy!
