What am I missing?
You need to learn how to cast the fire spell then go kill some neckers / drowners. Go back to the first area and explore / kill everything. Learning how to dodge is also absolutely essential.
You do need to hook up the magic stuff, it is worth it.
Learn how to chop stuff from the safety of your horse then batter some thieves.
Do the 'kill the giant chicken' quest before the Baron stuff - it's a 'hoot' when the chicken arrives on the scene. Then as you level up do the 'new monster type' quests that introduce you to a new type of beast with a cool backstory. It's very, very good. Or at least it was when I was recovering from surgery.

Play Wolfenstein on hard.
Also if you've not already played it give Bioshock Infinite a go.

Oooh, any more stealthy silenced pistol games? I remember really enjoying 007: Nightfire for that reason when it came out. See also Soldier Of Fortune! Wow. I CAN remember things that happened earlier than last week!
I enjoyed all of the Splinter Cell series for teh stealthz.

Does it make the guards any smarter? There is a fair amount of "ignoring the dead colleague nearby" and "selective hearing of that colleague's demise just a few moments ago."

No but it punishes you more if when you do get seen

Big fan of the old Spliter Cell games, everything as far as Double Agent at least. Haven't played the more modern ones.
If you've got a Playstation the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is worth picking up as well as the original PS1 game.
Currently playing through MGS3, so many amazing little details. Hands down my favourite game ever.

If you don't mind swapping a silenced pistol for a bow and arrow, check out the old Thief games.
And as previously mentioned, the Metal Gear Solid games are always worth a shot.
Forgot about the Soldier of Fortune games, loved those as a kid!

Anybody playing Insurgency on PC? It's on steam sale for $1 over here across the pond and it's easily the most challenging and rewarding multiplayer FPS I've played in a while.

hitman absolution makes for great stealther pistol action. also you get to poison / garotte / crush / electrocute / explode / push people off things etc. if that's what steams your onions.

Shadow of the Colossus remake might be the game that finally makes me buy a PS4.

Yeah used to enjoy Thief series - well, Thief 2 mainly, which I loved. Was fairly disappointed by the revised version in 2014ish.

The HD collection is only on Xbox though (and PS3)?

Ahh, forgot about the lack of backwards compatibility (last home console was a PS2...).
Though those games were pretty much my sole reason for picking up a Vita.

This indeed. Great atmosphere and sound. Also water arrows ftw, to snuff out lights.

Finally got round to playing Shadow of War. Not very satisfying to begin with but getting into it now. AC with magic, warg-riding, troll-hunting, and Uruk-army-recruiting.
Nerdy but fun -

Found a bunch of old games in a box. Installed Scummvm and playing through Toonstruck now. Graphics (and P&C) aside, it's genius.

MGS V is great in this regard, even if it might be a bit lacking as a MGS game. Tons of great details such as, you can't hold up guards until you've hired an interpreter that speaks their language, reporting missing people and odd sightings.
My favourite is that there will be trucks moving throughout the map and stopping in all the different bases (which you can hop in the back of with a cardboard box and travel quickly), and if you steal their truck whilst they are in a base they will report it over the radio, and the commander tells them nothing has been reported, someone else muddy have needed it, and they should carry on on-foot. So off try run. (Bit #csb)

Will add to my wishlist. Thank you

I always forget that I have to caveat it with; there is quite a bit of gratuitous/excessive charecter design. You can get past it and I think the gameplay is good enough to be worth it, but it can be pretty bad
Also, if you have a PS4 and PSN it was free recently

Blows. Desperate to play 2 and 3 again.

Finally started Metro 2033 Redux. Runs pretty good... highest settings, 1440, 60fps... I'm guessing its in part to its clever level design, while its pretty much on rails the environment its set in hides that quite well.

I've got Monster Hunter World for PS4 arriving tomorrow. Anyone else got/getting it and want to team up?
Close enough.
Besides the Wolfenstein AI was not built from the sharpest of bowling balls. A bit more of a challenge would be great.
