Bad traders

Does anyone know James. (with the period) personally?

I paid for the frame on Monday and got a message on Wednesday mentioning it was boxed up and would get shipping info ASAP. Since then, I have messaged and emailed multiple times with no reply.

I see James is pretty active on the forum and has sold stuff on here before - so I’m wondering if something happened? Can anyone offer some help?

Bit too premature to be posting up in here if last communication was Wednesday. Probably should be given the benefit of the doubt.

I agree with giving the benefit of the doubt. But, that is why I asked if anyone knows him personally or could offer some insight as to whether something happened or not.

I wasn’t really sure where else to post this. I’m happy to edit my original post in here - as I’m just trying to get more info and have no other way of getting in contact.

You could change the username, tagged the wrong James.

For whatever reason, the @ name selection won’t work. Even when I partially type it out and select the actual username. Maybe it’s the period?

It wouldn’t be the first time that that James has made it to the pages of the bad trader thread, all be it some years ago.

First, open a PayPal claim.

Second, that's about all you can do unless you report it to the Police.

opened a claim with my bank.

unless james comes through in the 11th hour, i wouldn't recommend dealing with him.

Did you pay with PayPal goods and services?

stupidly, no. i thought there was enough history here on james. to not have to worry about it.

but, making a claim through my bank supersedes paypal. i'm confident that it will be fine as i've kept records of our conversation, dates, and transaction. if anyone else makes this mistake in the future i'd recommend going this route. they've been very helpful.

But perhaps it's best not to ban him until you get your money back? Maybe he's been in a coma for two weeks and he feels terrible and will do everything he can to make this right or maybe he's bad trader and will try to argue his case here in a way that could be helpful to proving to whomever that he owes you the money.

i've pretty much given up hope at this point. in addition, i've even tried to reach out to forum members that have dealt with him in the past and may be able to get in contact. nothing has worked.

he sent a picture of his (alleged) drivers license if someone wants to check up on him at his address? i'm in NYC or i would have a week ago.

If he's sent you a picture of his driving license I say dob him in to the police. Not sure they'll be able to do anything about it but you never know. In fact if you send a message to him the simple threat of the police might be enough to get your money back.

Have your bank been able to reverse the transaction?

On one hand, sending a pic of your licence doesn't sound much like the actions of someone trying to scam you, it doesn't look like he's been active since. On the other even if something terrible had happened and he's been totally pre-occupied, you'd think he could drop you a quick line to let you know.

Is it possible to search for a phone number from the address on his licence, could give him a call? or good old facebook stalk? With his full name etc surely it shouldn't be hard to find him, not that you should have too.

I reckon he's just been a bit lazy, not posted the frame (but intends to), and is deliberately going quiet until he gets round to doing so, at which point he'll make up a fairly plausible but possibly bullshit excuse.

His email has been shared so that it is searchable such that if he creates an alias and attempts more trades that people use the search function and find this post warning them not to trade with him.
