Which Tyres?

  • I have a spare almanzo tyre. Anyone want it for a tenner?

  • Are they bang on trend 40 mm wide?

  • Has anyone made a decent tanwall tubeless tyre yet?

  • 25-28 (28 ideally)

  • Only Vittoria I reckon.

  • I think you are right. Did email them a few a weeks ago to see if/when the Control tubeless are going to be released but no response.

  • There's been a few pictures of a gumwall Maxxis re-fuse tubeless but it is yet to appear for sale anywhere AFAIK.

  • Edit: Sorry, thought you said tubular not tubeless.

  • General question for everyone: is puncture protection really that necessary? I've been riding around on tyres with literally no puncture protection and I've only had a couple of punctures in the last two years. And one of those was a pinch flat. Have I just been lucky?

  • General question for everyone: is puncture protection really that necessary?

Yes and no, too many variability to account for.

  • Oh excellent, thanks!
Is the larger measurement the correction for the bigger rims?

  • Is the larger measurement the correction for the bigger rims?

    Yes.

Also, they have a nice formula. Generally the width (in this case 40mm) times 2.6 is total width of the tyre when laid flat on the ground ( like this ).

So you can calculate the actual width like this
    ((Tyre width x 2.6)+Rim width)/π=Actual tyre width (π=pi=±3.14)

For example, if your rims have an internal width of 25mm and your tyres are 40x622:
    ((40x2.6)+25)/π=41mm

  • Have been dithering over picking up some spare Vittoria Hypers from Planet X. As a result, the price has gone up from £14.99 to £19.99 in 35mm. I'm pretty sure that I've seen this price fluctuating over time - has anyone noticed a pattern?

  • They’ve been £19.99 since November at least

  • I think I paid £13.99 on the October 30th

  • probably the best non tubeless wide tyres ever made

(technically supreme but they are tubeless now)

  • They were £14.99 a couple of weeks ago, and on 20 Nov when I bought a pair.

  • Apologies for the random spammage but I have a bag of 7 old random tyres gathering dust under my desk (St Pauls) that I need to dispose of. They range from 500miles to 5000miles (probably) but it's not actually that easy to tell which is which!

    2x23c Rubino Pro (white/black)
    2x28c Rubino Pro
    1x27c Open Pave
    1x25c Open Pave
    1x25c Rubino Pro

Anyway, they are going in the bin next week unless someone wants to pick some/all of them up? Try to ignore the cobwebs/filth!

  • Well that's Planet X and On-One for you.

  • 700x50 / 29x2" (approx) for commuting, towpaths, general run about.

    What do I get?

  • I'd say Schwalbe Marathon Supreme but the 50-622 version only comes in the V-Guard version instead of the Microskin. Still folding tho

  • The folding Hypers are back down to £15 at PX...

  • Trouble with Marathon Supreme is that you get bored with seeing them on your bike year after year, never needing any attention...
