Possible wrong thread alert but ho-hum.
I'm looking for a rack mounted audio mixer (ideally 1 rack unit high and in an IDEAL world, two thirds wide so I can slot it next something like this: https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/uk/products/hyperdeckstudiomini)
It basically needs to take 4 x XLR inputs at the back (or more but 4 would be fine). Have physical level knobs/dials so I can mix on the fly. I'd need to be able see some kind of screen/monitor to check levels from all 4, not just whichever one is the main source I'm taking from at the time.
I'd need to be able to mix and send either a mixed stereo or mono mix out signal into a camera either via line out or some sort of mic level XLR output. Massive bonus points if it comes with internal recording.
I've been trying to do this with a Zoom H6 but not able to get levels into our FS5/7 (maybe a dodgy H6 as I'm sure it should be possible). So I figured I'd just get something new. And a rackmounted solution would be sweet so I can add it to some other racked stuff and pop it in a flight case.
Something a bit like this I guess but two thirds the width if it exists. Also I figured i'm looking for something a bit fancier.
Would want it to be pretty decent quality - don't mind spending.
If anyone is 'clever' and can figure out something from Blackmagic that does the same then they win the internet for today. But I've not been able to figure it out (or at least i can't find anything the right size with 4 full sized XLR ports on the back.

I don't know of anything that fits that brief, but it sounds like the sort of thing that CTP Systems or Glensound might do? They also do customs so may be able to help....

ooh - custom! I like the sound of that. Cheers, will check them both out.

Has anyone here used Yamaha MusicCast?
I’ve got a Sonos system in a few rooms but in the Living room my main hifi is currently just for vinyl. I’d like to be able to stream through it and was thinking about getting a Sonos Connect.
But a while ago someone told me that the Yamaha stuff sounds better and I’ve just seen that their Yamaha WXC50 is now cheaper than a Sonos Connect.
I’m now worried about playing multi-room at the same time as I never do that anyway. But I guess having to use another app is a bit of a pain (unless I can control it with the spotify app which would be fine).
I guess what I want to know is if it is going to be notably better sound quality?
Yamaha NPS303 is also an option. -

Can anyone recommend a smallish cheapish amp with multiple ins? It's not for audiophile stuff, it's to run a TV / PS4 / Alexa / into a pair of old Tannoy M3 floorstanders. Pref with a remote control.

Apologies for the cross-posting, I have a few things for sale in the classifieds if anyone wants to have a wee look:

So I bought the paratrace stylus for the AT95 mentioned further up the page. Definitely improves on the standard stylus as you'd expect. Not sure if I have my cartridge loading right for the AT95 at the moment but the cart itself needs a fairly severe eq to get close to neutral. Without the EQ you've got a fairly pronounced bass and recessed upper mids. The surface noise drops quite a bit and everything gets more focus.
It's very convincing regarding the importance of the stylus profile, I will probably avoid ellipticals now. It makes the MP-110 seem a bit agricultural although that's still a very musical cart, it just seems to belt the music out with enthusiasm but a little bit rougher in the upper register.

I fitted a brand new Hana SL to the Techie this morning. So far so good. Will need a bit of running in, but it is a huge jump up from the Denon.

Just got a test record (Analogue Productions), never had one before, great for setting up the cartridge.
So you're not selling the 1200 now? I've been having evil thoughts about the 1200G and occasionally GR but then I'm thinking upgrade the mk3 or abandon ship and go for something like the VPI scout. Madness really as I'd be chasing really minimal gains.

Ive not really decided. I have a few offers for it, but going back and forth to Aus has stalled negotiations. I have been looking at a WTA Amadeus, as well as a couple of other tables but worry that I will regret selling the 1210. the Hana has sat in the desk for a month or two so I just decided to fit. It

Understandable, I'm guessing like most customisation it's difficult to get anything like the investment back.
-
• #4492
Most of it was done before I bought it and I got a pretty good deal, so I wouldn’t lose much at all.
I have been offered the Sony back if I want it - I am really tempted as I don’t think the techie is three times as good.
What is amazing is this Tron Convergence phono stage. A real class above.

One thing that concerns me about valve phono stages is how much they colour the sound. The 12AX tubes are all noticeably different in character in guitar amps but I guess they are fairly linear in phono stages if you're not overdriving them.
At the same time it's all synergy and if you find a stage that works well with the cart and table then that's the right fit for your system. I'm pretty sure I need to work out the cart loading on my diy phono stage with the AT95, an extra 100pf should work.

Ive got a B&O A2 that I take to the garage. Impressive little unit.

Beolit 15 or 17 ticks all those boxes. The sound is fantastic for the size, the bottom is rubberised so can take a bit of wet, battery lasts a fair while. I think they're closer to 400 new, but a second hand maybe?
-
• #4497
like the look of that Beolit thing. I realise its primarily designed for streaming spotify etc from a mobile, but if i wanted to play files from a NAS, for example, how would that work?
I guess I could do that via a laptop and the 3.5mm jack, but maybe also possible via mobile android app NAS -> mobile over WiFi, mobile -> Beolit over bluetooth?

• #4498
I've always liked Minirigs, although others are catching up now. For that price you can get two and go with the stereo option.
-
• #4499
On Android at least there are plenty of options for playing music from a NAS. If compatible the best interface would probably be a Plex server on the NAS and use that app.

I'm using a network of Libratone speakers. When we started with them they were one of the few options that covered bluetooth and airplay, they are a little bit cheaper than B&O but the sound quality is good. I'm using the small and large ones and a mixture of stereo pairs and singles to get good distribution in some large rooms, with a few in other rooms to get a whole house system. The software works well and they deliver regular updates.
Usually B&O are hard to beat on sound though.
Apparently the jico stylus on the AT95e transforms it.
