You can get an out-of-warranty 810 'refurbed' by Garmin for £82.50
Do you have a link to where the returns are offered?

For the refurb your device needs to be broken from my experience.

It's not stated on the website as such, there is some basic info about repairs I think that doesn't apply to the Edge models in the UK 'warranty' section. You need to call the number given there.
I think I got this tip from Singletrackworld forum at least 5 years ago, replaced a smashed 705, another one a couple of years later, and when my 810 started acting up last August I did it again OK. There was no physical damage and I didn't claim there was. I just said it was frequently crashing/turning itself off.
If they had hesitated I might have said I'd dropped it in a lake or something. Or called back after chucking it at a wall.
All 3 units were described as refurbs, all 3 were immaculate.

you need some maps from TalkyToaster

So you paid for another same crashy 810?
-
• #4508
I didn't make it clear but the original got much much worse over its lifespan. Maybe it was water damaged. Also, it was bought for me as a present so I didn't pay for the original and didn't have budget to buy a Wahoo or other alternative. If the replacement had been equally crashy I would have asked for the refurb cost back from Garmin, and got something second hand.

It is indeed a good deal. Rain not good for Garmin, mine only get recharged in the cafe now.

Does anyone have the garmin agent software anywhere - should be a file called AntAgent_234.exe
It looks as though Garmin are pretending that older equipment (like the 910xt) no longer exist

There might be some on: http://www.gawisp.com/perry/agree.html
(I can't from work as it trips the nanny-state firewall nonsense.)
You can find other links if you just google for the filename, but I really wouldn't trust those.

My buyer bottled it, gonna try and get a refurb. Intermittent backlight should be enough justification I think?

Yep, the file is here: http://gawisp.com/perry/forerunner/

Can anyone point me to a guide to updating my edge 810 firmware without using Garmin Express please?
Also if there's some kind of repository of firmware versions? -

Download the gcd file put it in the garmin folder, restart your device.
Getting hold of gcd files is not so simple. Try this at your own risk. Not being too successful uploading 6.10. It may be included in the link.

Anyone else having any issues saving routes to garmin connect at the moment. Tried both Chrome and IE.

My trusty 800 is starting to show signs of doom. Turns off randomly and keeps asking me if I want to factory reset.
What do I replace it with, 820?

Get a 800 refurb from Garmin.

Everything from Garmin since the 800 that bad?
-
• #4522
1000
820 doesn't have an SD slot does it?
-
• #4523
The 1000 seems okay but isn’t the 820 just plain terrible?
-
• #4524
I've used the 1000 in TCRx2 and TABR. It's major flaw is it's weak waterproofing of the SD slot, which I "fixed" by filling it with silicone grease and taping over the SD slot. I would never recommend the 810 but I've not used the 820 so don't know how it compares with the 1000.

The 1000 was available for 250 last weekend but it disappeared pretty quickly. I'm assuming it's due for another price cut as surely even Garmin aren't stupid enough to keep selling it for the same price as the 1030. Wiggle had it at 275 a month ago.
I'd avoid the 820 unless you have better than 20/20 vision to read the screen and and always wear mitts (which might mean the touchscreen will work if you lick your fingers!).
More good points, thanks. I'll see what the prospective buyer says but I might go down that refurb route
