  • Tied spokes..... Gotta love them.

    Nyom, nyom, nyom, nyom.

  • That Merkcx is a dogs dinner

  • As much as I hate to agree with Señor_Bear, he's right, that's a proper mess

  • I thought so too.

    The cockpit is ragged.

  • That is a mess.

  • I agree with you there but it's due to a spinal injury. And I appreciate he's gone and drilled holes in a Merckx. I still kinda like it though.

  • Just finished the build on a Roberts frame I picked up from @tomsvoboda
Frame was lovely but paint was not , so off to Argos for a repaint, & decals had some cable guides welded on the head tube & old guides removed from Bottom bracket for a modern campag guide
Better pics when the sun is out

  • nice effort sir

  • Very tidy!

  • Only just seen this, but what exactly were the concerns re: re-spacing a chrome rear end? Is it that the stretching may cause the chrome to crack/flake in certain areas as its being re-spaced, or is it longer term, with the cracks/flaking being caused over a longer time period as a result of some kind of 'stress' to the chrome from rear being 'stretched'? I can imagine either of the above being the case if you were trying to stretch it a lot, but the 4mm from 126 to 130 does'nt sound much. I'm no metallurgist though so claim no expertise on the matter.

FWIW I have a Merckx with a chrome rear that's been re-spaced from 126 to 130 and its fine, no chrome cracking or flaking at all, so far at least, but not sure if I should expect it to deteriorate over time.

And have you got and fitted the gumwalls yet? Pics? Looking out of the window now I can see there is no real hurry to do that, assuming the Daccordi is a fair weather bike.

  • Fairweather bike! Ha!

It is meant to be. But yesterday I took the triangle to Maidenhead for a flat fast fifty back home. Took a wrong turn almost immediately and then attempted a short cut back to the route.

    Through a field.

    A muddy field.

The new gum walls just span whilst I was pedalling, leaving me stationary and the mudguards and brake calipers filled with mud and grass.

Walked for twenty minutes, pushing the bike, my feet becoming more and more like Worzel Gummage on the way.

First garage I came to had no water pump working so I did my best with tissues. Another fifteen miles til the next garage and a proper clean up.

Anyway, good to hear that your chrome rear triangle bore no ill after effects.

  • That's really, really nice - good job.

  • Ooof taking that Daccordi through a muddy field in January, you evil man ;) You were lucky it did'nt buck you off into the nearest bramble patch. I hope you were apologising to it the whole time and continued to begged for forgiveness all the way home after the clean up.

Chapeau for getting out though, I hoped to today but its so grim, sod that. I decided to carbo load and drink beer instead, ahead of attacking some Kent hills tomorrow, and only if its as dry and sunny as the Beeb says its going to be, but I'm not holding my breath.

  • Yep. It is going to stay in the shed til summer.

    Or Friday. Whichever comes first.

  • Luckily I love it so much that I am obsessively cleaning it after every ride.

  • Hi!
    Here's my Bianchi

  • Anyone have a link to a good setup guide for fitting a modern groupset? Obvs it's basic setup stuff but are there any guidelines for getting the outer casing length just so between bars and downstops for example?

  • getting the outer casing length just so between bars and downstops for example?

Cut it too long, ride around for a bit, cut them down again when you're sure. Works almost every time.

  • That seems terribly sensible. I'd been hoping for some sort of procedure involving turning the bars and making measurements and that sort of carry on...

  • There is a shorter procedure. ;)

    SQRT [3/4 (Toptube length+bar width)]

But that ofcourse is bullshit too.

Just put one end of casing in the brifter, fix casing to to bars with some temporary tape, turn bars till stem makes a 110° with the frame, hold aside of the cable stop and cut.

  • @Nahguavkire

Nothing 'formulaic' per se. This link shows a complete modern bike build and the chap doing the cabling. He's somewhat 'slap dash'. No doubting his hands on experience though.

    Happy cabling.
(Better to be too long than too short!)

  • My effort thus far... deserves better photos.

  • Cool, KMs always have a good vibe about them

Are you going to stick a modern chainset on it too?

If you're up for changing the bars could look quite good with shallower drops imo
