Comes on and stays on. I presume that the light has some system for allowing the capacitor to power the light only when the voltage from the dynamo drops below a certain level.
@mespilus there's only one (COB) LED for both running and standlight functions. No daylight sensor, it's a fairly simple light. Here are pictures of the board. The wires to the LED are the red and black ones at the top and bottom of the board. The pair of red and blue go to a 0.1F capacitor, but the big 1F coin-shaped capacitor under the board is the one that, I think, actually powers the standlight function.

Recently bought this on ebay:
What do I need to get to connect to Shimano front dynamo hub and a rear B+M Light?
And?

Normally there should be two dangling wires, one short with connectors for the rear light (these ones are visible on your light) and a longer one that you connect to the dyno (and trim if necessary) using eg this if you have an SP hub . This last one doesn't appear to be visible on your photo so you may need to open up the light and do some soldering?

open up the light and do some soldering?
This is what I feared .. might just return it and buy a new one with intact cable ..
I think the shimano dynamo should come with SP-like connector, they generally do.

So opened it, I think I am supposed to solder at X1 and X2?

Looks right.
Make sure you get them the right way round, it’s AC so can be dangerous if you connect them up the wrong way.

I need to extend the wire between the lamp and the dynamo: what amp rated wire do I need for the extension?

Anyone know where I can get a suitable grommet for routing my coaxial dynamo cable through my front mudguard?

I bought about 5m of that stuff from an excellent bike shop that was closing down. If you only need a bit I can give you some? PM me if you want.
Edit: just saw I'm late by 6 days. Still happy to give you some if you need

Anyone got any recommendations for a handlebar (31.8mm) mount for a B&M IQ-X? Put some new forks on my Genesis yesterday & now there isn't enough room for the brake hole mounting option I was using before. I think the higher up position would be better for seeing the route ahead anyway.

Mate, I got the b&m mount for 31.8 bars I've just taken off my bike as I've put the dynamo light back on fork if you're interested.
I have a similar fork though to yours, and go around the issue by getting rubber washers from B&Q to bring the point where the dynamo mounts away from fork. Working so far.

SON mount will work, any Go-Pro mount will also work

You can take the B&M off me in exchange for beer as that's what I'd probable drop the £10 on.

Fucked off with B+M IQ-X .. one wet ride and the standlight has stopped working!

Same issue here. How did you take it apart was it just one screw?
Comes one and stays on, or comes on as a pulse and then dies?
