  • We're arriving in Zermatt tomorrow. Climbing not skiing though.

Have been in Wengen for the lauberhorn downhill for the last few days, pretty hard packed...needs a nice refreshing dump.

  • We're arriving in Zermatt tomorrow. Climbing not skiing though.

Is that the Caster and Pollux route? Anyway, conditions are excellent and hopefully it'll continue like this. Not that I care - we're leaving tomorrow evening.

  • Forum tag team!

Half traverse Breithorn...wind forecast to be 165kmh at 4000m on the day we have our guide booked so not looking likely sadly....

We bought our snowshoes so still plenty of fun to be had.

  • Yeah its gonna be fucking windy this week! Looks like -30 with wind chill over here in Verbier Wed - Thurs.

  • Looks like Zermatt is getting another sizeable dump on Wednesday. 2 inches of rain expected...not sure how much snow that translates to but it's a lot.

It is a perfect day here today.

  • Cross-country skiing in Oberwald again this weekend. There's fucktons on snow. And a big dump due tonight. Apparently there's a risk we'll get snowed in Zermatt stylee if it's really heavy. Which would mean I wouldn't be able to make it back to work on Monday. Which would be terrible, of course.

  • I'm in Zermatt now. Big dump overnight and due to snow until Tuesday.

No trains, due to rockfall and avalanche risk. Road closed too. Trying to see if we can get a helicopter to Visp to make our flight tomorrow but no flights available at the moment as they are all needed for avalanche safety work.

  • Yup, we're stranded until at least Tuesday.

  • Better go and ski then!

  • Ski area entirely closed until Tuesday.

  • Bum

  • The skiing is going to be amazing in a few days. Its falling as proper sink-to-the waist powder. We were snowshoeing under the North Wall of the Matterhorn yesterday near Stafel and there was 3m of snow on the ground at 3000m.

Stark contrast to the same week last year, barely 50cm on the ground in the same place.

  • Had an awesome afternoon of tree skiing yesterday, then I foolishly announced my last run. Literally 20m from the bottom I slip out on a frozen root, and wrap myself around a tree. Smashed the inside of my knee pretty hard, but seems to just be bruised thankfully.

Just a reminder to NEVER have a last run!

  • You'll have to go full ski-mo. I'm not sure anyone will have put in the PDG tracks yet though.

  • Sitrep: Road and train down to Brig/Visp is shut. We're trying to see if we can get out via Andermatt in an epic 6 hour train journey. Due to fly back to Blighty early tomorrow morning...

  • It's a lovely train journey if our can do it. Prob won't be able to see much today though! I thought I saw that the line was shut before andermatt though...

  • Before the latest dump. Road had only been clear for 12 hours before this snow arrived.

  • Now on the train from Oberwald to Andermatt, heading away from our destination. A 6 hour marathon featuring 4 trains and 2 buses beckons.

  • Was just about to get on a helicopter to täsch and the weather closed in again and they have suspended flights. Fffffuuuuu

  • Slightly better progress here. Managed to avoid busses, and now on my third of six trains. Heading NNW. My destination is south-west of here. Next stop Luzern.

  • Shit, just seen the video of the police announcement on FB. I'm hoping everything clears up by Wednesday, I've got exams in Lausanne so if shit doesn't get sorted before then I'm in trouble!

  • just seen the video of the police announcement on FB

Wassat then? They going to shoot anyone accidentally setting off avalanches on sight? Proportionate Swiss response.

  • This is actually starting to get a bit mental. The snow is just getting heavier and heavier and isn't set to stop until Tuesday.

  • Ha, no just an announcement that Helis are full until tomorrow and they're not sure there'll be a flying window.

  • Well, I made it back to Vevey. 6 trains over just under 6 hours. They shut the line to Andermatt and Goschenen 3 hours after we passed through. Have fun in Zermatt @Stonehedge, and I hope you get to your exam @chiroshi.
