Depends on the laptop partly.
My main laptop is probably 6 years old but that is an i7 with 16GB of RAM, it runs everything perfectly fine.
I've also got a similar age laptop (which I actually bought for £60) with SSD, i5 and 2GB of RAM that runs Linux Mint fine and is pretty snappy most of the time. I'd also expect it to run Win10 OK.

Does the forum think it's worth spending ~£60 on SSD* for an 7yo laptop with 3GB RAM** running lubuntu? Or is it better to put that money towards a 2014-15 ultrabook that already has an SSD and can probably run Windows 10?
