only people who moan leave reviews. people with 4 year old perfectly working chargers (me) dont feel as compelled to write a review on the apple website

Usually pay little heed for the reasons you mentioned but was surprised by the sheer number of 1 stars suggesting a design flaw. My charger has also been great for years but figured it could be a bad batch? Or just MS Surface trolls.

Cheers again for the offer - picked one up this morning. After I claim back the VAT it won't be quite so galling and at least I'll have a shiny white cable for a few weeks instead of my previous 'dirt' coloured one.

I am going to leave a 5 stars review this weekend just to balance it up. I think the Mac chargers are very good. Never had to replace any of it, ever. And the designs have always been much cleaner (like most Apple products are) than most other PC laptops' ones...
That said, I miss the magnetic connector... I like the USB-C but magnetic is better.

What do people think of this? Really tempted by it, wouldn't bother with the full RRP, but at USD $79, it sounds a good deal. I backed their previous USB-C hub and have been happy with it, so the company is sound and their products are fine... hummmm...

Some of the Chinese ones work fine but it's pot luck of your laptop recognises it.

Ive had real issues with apple chargers breaking, I've been through 5 in 6 years, they replaced 3 for me in one go as I went in with 4 broken ones and said you's can't tell me these are good and I refuse to buy another then they sorted me out.
I think its just the tugging at them all the time that makes the wires become exposed or has done with mine anyway.

So Apple genius confirmed it's the graphics card. Which required new logic board. The same issue that it was replaced for only 1.5 years ago, under replacement scheme. Won't fix it now as 'vintage'. So left with a paper weight of laptop.
I don't have a spare apple machine, so I can't un-encrypt my hard drive. I asked genius to do it, he said no. Not much goodwill from apple.
Sod em. What happened to good apple customer service.
Easiest thing to do is buy a new mac, un-encrypt hard drive, then return it. Tossers.

If you want to borrow my Macbook, we can arrange to meet.

They really aren't interested anymore and the min its out of warranty its fuck off.

Thanks, issue is it'll take possibly a few days, it's 400gb of stuff.
I'm not in a hurry for the stuff that's on it. So I'll find a spare machine somewhere, might be able to do it at university.
yeah seems that way @konastab01

Up to you...
The machine mostly sits there in case i'm too lazy to walk upstairs and use the main computer. I wouldn't miss it if it was gone for less than a week.

Looks good. Fixed usb-c cable might be an issue though would work fine for me. Doesn't appear to be some mass made in China re-packaged product either.

Hyper (the manufacturer) has a good reputation for Mac accessories. Tempted to get one myself.

"USB-C cable detachable so that you can use a longer cable if you wish."
Sorted... just saw their comment... shame the super early bird is all gone... dammit, it wasn't when I was at work, just didn't get round to pressing the damn button!!!

I've been offered a free (first gen I think) mac Pro from work, and I'm trying to figure out if its worth bothering with it, its likely got photoshop cs3 on it already but will that run photoshop CC or is it too old?
I guess the web browsers it supports will be fairly out dated?
-
• #12343
All depends how old. Pro 2010 and later will support Mac OS Sierra.
I used a Pro until the middle of this year. With a ton of RAM plus SSD it was as nippy as anything else I could have used for the work I do.*macOS - bah you kids get off my lawn

Will have been bought in 2007 I think as thats when the company opened, were a printing fineart/photo printing company so I assume they were as highly spec'd/modded as possible in terms of RAM and whatnot
*edit- is there a way of me telling what year exactly it is without turning it on?
so far I've identified that its definitely the Mac pro and not the similarly styled Power Mac G5 -
• #12345
I think you can get El Capitan running on that (may need some sleight of hand). At the age it is, it's got limited life because of the OS limitation. However, the good news is that giant ornamental cheese graters are due to come back 'in', and every home need a good conversation piece. [thumb]

Model number. Serial number.

To be honest i much prefer the look of these to the current space bin like models, but I suppose they are at least 4x the size.
When it comes to sleight of hand computers are not my forte.
thanks for the serial number checker will do that now!

• #12348
If it's an intel mac it might be worth throwing ssd and ram at it, but if it's a G5 I wouldn't bother
-
• #12349
if it's the mac 1.1, which it probably is, won't update past 10.6.8, I'm now trying to get rid of mine, and may just put it in for recycling.
If it isn't the 1.1 so 2.1, 3.1, 4.1, 5.1 , you may have better luck updating it to El Capitan/Sierra -
• #12350
it 100% is not a G5, they have the 1 large fan rather than the 2 smaller ones that appear on the G5.
When they were bought they were custom made to order so I assume (like everything we use here) they specced them as highly as possible.
@cornelius_blackfoot
i found this which seems promising, i guess getting it to run a later OS means I'd be able to run more up to date browsers and maybe photoshop and lightroom CC?
http://lowendmac.com/2014/modernizing-the-mac-pro-11-and-21/If its got a decent amount of RAM and works well as it is and they've happened to leave photoshop CS3 on there I may just leave it and use it purely for editing images, in which case I guess it doesn't need to be updated?
Tha review of the apple chargers have always been 1 star. People moan, I have never had to replace any of my Mac charger. If you change your mind, the offer is there, maybe buy the apple one, use it until you come back and return it within 14 days? I am a cheapstake, so...
Anyway, I am based in Elephant and Castle in case you want to pop round next week, just let me know the night before so I stick it in my bag.
