  • Higgs has had a wee in the bedroom, on the brand new carpet. How do I clean the blood off the walls?

  • ^This is a joke, she's asleep on the bed.

However, I would like her to not do this again, which I suspect means understanding why she did it in the first place. Why she do this?

  • Why she do this?

I wish I knew, but until you figure it out, this stuff works well. https://www.rugdoctor.co.uk/product/urine-eliminator-500ml/

For blood too, apparently. Not that I've ever had to clear that up...

  • brand new carpet

    ^This probably.
Probably stopped the room smelling like her territory.

  • @Baerli_Baer, that's what I thought about the change of litter, but it seems like she just loves the new type...

@mustardbeak, last time she used the tray, barring these last few days was like 2 years ago when I went away for a few weeks... she always does a protest wee or poop when I have visitors she doesn't like. And erm.... she uses next door's garden... probably pissing on the (neighbour's) dead cat grave...

I gotta give her credits for being bang on time everyday though.

Another possible reason is there are new cats in the area, but none that I can see... best case is she is just being a jerk...

  • There's a simple explanation for all of these behaviour issues.

They're cats. That's it. There is no rhyme or reason. They're like autistic teenagers. EG; Dizzy will have periods where if either of us goes anywhere near the bathroom she will dash in front of us, leap into the basin and wait for us to turn the tap on so she can fill herself with water. This will happen 5 or 6 times a day, even at night. Then she just goes off it and won't drink for weeks. She's currently in an ignore period, but she'll go back to it soon.

Don't worry about it. Cats are bonkers. Deal with it.

  • she didnt approve of your carpet colour andz the fact you you never consulted her before doing it

  • found an old image of my old friend Casper from 2006 ....

  • 1 week to go with my PgCert... luckily I have a study buddy... the only downside is someone is getting all the sleep...

  • Why can't I upload a picture of my study buddy? It's less than 1mb in jpeg... will try again later...

  • Fleur has been put on a diet by the vet after weighing in at 4.3kg on Saturday. She’s on 50g day of food(mix wet/dry), down from 80g. She seems pretty unimpressed about the whole affair...

  • Last time Patch weighted 4.3kg and the vet said she needs to go on a diet, you know what I said? I said she hasn't done a dump today yet... that shut the vet right up...

Next time she was weighted, 6 months later, she was 4.13kg, so yes, I was right, she just hadn't done a crap that morning yet.

  • I love that picture of Higgs and mini-Tesla. It's probably one of my all time favourite cat photos. The hatred and contempt is amazing.

  • Haha I had considered that, alas Fleur pooped out of fear when we were trying to get her into the box of mystery just before we left so poss not the case here.
Also, Fleur is tiny for a bsh, like really really small so in this case the vet might be right. Will be dillegant in weighing her over the next month.

  • Just found out that Merlin, our family cat is going to be put down later tonight. He's 15 so I've known him for a little under half my life.

Can't put into words right now how much I love that cat.

I last saw him over the weekend when I was at my parents house. He had an eye infection and looked a little weak but still commanded his space in front of the fire.

Everyone was expecting a shot of antibiotics at the vet would see him right so my parents are obviously devastated as he's the only one left now myself, brother and sister have all left home.

Going to give my cats some extra attention tonight.

  • shame to hear that @Soul - its tough, but youve given him a great home and best to let him go with dignity - but yeah, tough to leave a pal like that. (he looks so much like my old family cat who never had a name and we called him 'chch', white paws and white v on the chest)

  • not my bike /cat

  • So Patch has no intention of stop using the litter tray and at the same time doing her business outside, which brings to a question - how often do you guys clean the tray and completely replace the litter? I think I used to clean it with litter tray spray and rinse it down etc once every 2 to 3 weeks, when she was kept indoor and using it few times a day. That enough?

  • Sorry to hear.

  • Fleur is indoors so uses her tray exclusively. We change her litter twice a week and wash it with boiling water/dettol each time.

  • What litter are you using?

We used the non clumping wood chip one, scoop the poo out once or twice a day depending on the smell. As the pee causes the pellets to go to sawdust. So clean the the trays out every day with baby wipes.

  • I know it’s not the most ecologically sound but we use catsan. She literally won’t go on anything else and we’ve tried everything, including all sustainable options. Frustrating, but it doesn’t smell and means she doesn’t go anywhere she shouldn’t.

  • Like others say, depends on what litter.

We use 'World Best Cat Litter' which is the organic flushable clumping stuff. With two cats using a large tray, we clean it and replace the litter once every 10 days (ish). Wood pellet ones need changing much more often because they disintegrate and start to smell really bad.
