I quite like this vintage Girard Perregaux chronograph but not sure about the condition vs price. eBay link

Anyone care to give their 2p on it or answer some of my thoughts?

Is the crown original? Oil stain on the center of the movement implies a DIY lube at some point? Why is there so much wear on the upper Chrono button? Strap lug thingys look to have taken a scrape at some point? Should the sub dial hands be different? Etc

Love protrek. Have had a PRW-1300YJ-1JF for over 11 years now! Great watch and very very sturdy. Have treated it like crap and it’s still going strong. It’s my go to beater. If g-shock are meant to be sturdier then they must be built for armageddon!

Have used compass for hiking (backup to proper compass), orienting in new cities, buying new house (which direction is garden facing). Used altimeter when hiking and skiing (interesting to know how high you are and nice to see little graph change as you move along). Never used barometer. Thermometer is useful if you have the watch lying around (as otherwise it just tells you the temp of your wrist). This watch sits on my night stand, as occasionally like to check temp before bed or when I wake up.

The multiband time check with atomic clock is an excellent feature. Updates every evening. This watch is used to regulate all my other watches.

Also solar.

Have been thinking about reducing my collection. This one was at the top of the keeper list because of all of the above.

Only issue for me is that the newer Protreks are pretty big. Waiting for Casio to come out with a ‘small’ version and I may look to replace.

Sounds good. Just seen this in black, boxed in a cash generator for £245 and feel confused.

Most likely as it's another watch that syncs with an atomic clock.

That's a little too busy for me. Did consider a Citizen BJ7000 or 7010. Not so many functions but for a while I wanted a slide rule in my life!

I don't know GP well but this watch case looks like it's had a tough life. Notice the pitting on the rear of the lugs from sweat corrosion. Even from the crappy ebay pictures it looks to have been redialled, which for me would be an absolute no go. And I agree, the movement looks shagged out. Plus the seller hasn't a clue about this watch - I'm struggling to believe this is 1960s judging on the case design. Anyway, I see no positives about this watch...

Cos slide rule is way more useful than barometer for me. But it is indees very busy.

I have turned the inner bezel on a Legend.

I felt guilty after doing so.

Ohhhh. Rather like the auto. Tidy dial for a slide rule watch. Only thing is that I've committed myself to is sub 40mm watches (partly to help curb my enthusiasm and partly as I have tiny wrists!). Belive Breitling did a small one ages ago. Undoubtedly too pricey for me.

Holding out for the fashion for massive watches to die.

There's a Girard Perregaux I'm watching on ebay I REALLY like. But it feels like it's actually gone up in price even though it's not selling.

Similar issue with small wrists. Been wearing the old Seiko Arctura all the last week and feel it is 'big enough'. Makes the Citizen/G-Shock/ProTrek choice-limbo tough since they are silly big options.

Longines seem do quite nice traditional watches without it feeling like their PR department has forced them to make a 'heritage timepiece'.

saw that it person as well. the guy who owned it had in the box two zenith pilots a panerai sub and a 372, couple of rolexes, a tudor pelagos and some others i dont remember

this really stood out from the lot. beautiful classy with a great movement

They are lovely. Do they still make them in classic size though? Last time I saw a Zenith window display all their chronos seemed to be @ChainBreaker size. :(
