Ticket to Ride has the rare distinction of being good for adults and older children. The whole series is worth getting, although they charge you quite a lot of money for not very much at all. Beware duplications--I think there's still a standalone Switzerland box knocking around when it's now included in one of the map sets (together with India).
It's a little confusing at first that the rules vary slightly from game to game, but you get used to it.

I've got Traders & Builders, we don't play without it now we've got it. Inns & Cathedrals looks to be our next expansion.

Ticket to ride expansion is ok. Anyone got the French board?
-

Also played Exploding Kittens
Nice little game. I'm a big fan of unusual card games - that is, ones that don't use an ordinary deck of cards and aren't Magic the fucking gathering. Grass, Lunch Money, Give Me the Brain, Family Business, that kind of thing.

I can recommend the following:
- For Sale
- Haggis
- Fungi
- Jaipur (has tokens for points, so not just a deck of cards. But it has camel cards, so that's a plus).

Hey Yasi--Not sure I can give you very good advice--of the expansions, I've played Switzerland, Nordic Countries, Africa, Asia, and UK/Pennsylvania, so I don't know them all. I haven't played France, so can't help you there. Personally, while I don't mind some variant rules, I have to say of those I've played so far I prefer the ones that are reasonably close to the original rules. I think it's a commercial decision for them to vary the rules with every set they sell; I'd much prefer it if they just sold more maps for cheaper, but there you go. (You can draw--nothing stopping you from making your own maps. :) Oh, the good old days of Railway Rivals ...)
I'd base what to get firstly on how many players you can regularly get together. There are some expansions specifically for 2-3 players (Nordic Countries, Switzerland (although neither of those two are that much fun any more once you've figured out their fatal design flaw, which I won't give away--it's not hard to find, though :) ), and one of the Asia maps). The UK is also good for 2-3 (but it has complicated additional rules).
I haven't played India, but you could get India and Switzerland. That looks like an OK set. I'd get it if I didn't already have Switzerland. Switzerland is a good map until you see the problem, worth trying in any case.
On another note, the prices are really quite silly--I saw the World set recently but it was €80. I find €30 for the map sets much too steep, too--but TtR was expensive right from the beginning, so no surprises there. Maybe all games cost this much nowadays--a reflection of demand and the crowded market, I suppose.

Hello Oliver! Happy New year! I hope you are well!
Im lucky I managed to get the Europe edition for £23! the maps are more expensive... but I do want anew map!!
The Nordic map was the first TtR I played, and I only played it once! What’s the design flaw, I’m worried that I won’t spot it.
I did get the 1912 expansion that does breath new life in to the game but the French map looks quite difficult because you have to have to put track down, but I don’t know anyone whose played it so I’m not sure if the game play is very different and worth the extra ‘dollar’.
Maybe I should just opt for a different game. @DancefloorTerrorist can you play that with two people, does the timer make the game very short?

I'm very well, thanks! Happy New Year to you, too!
As I said, I won't tell you about the design flaw, as you'll enjoy it less once you know. :) For the record, I do think it's a good map all things considered.
The French map certainly wouldn't be my first choice, but you never know, it might be surprisingly good. For laying down track, Railway Rivals is still the unbeaten best, though.

Got a free boardgame yesterday! I’d not heard of it before but it’s pretty good.
Strong female character which was a nice coincidence on International Women’s Day.

Played Jamaica at the weekend is actually very fun! Any one played colt express or century spice road at all??
Also is Bruxelles any good we started play No it but ran out of time at draughts to actually play it. But we are the sort of people that like the setting up and tidying up bit as much as the playing bit 🙄

It's very good actually. we've only played it a couple of times before we packed it as we just moved house.
It was a little more complicated than other games we have (my son is 8), there are different statergies you could choose to win the game rather than one clear path to take like games for younger children have.
The last few weeks since the move we've only been playing Takenoko which is his current favourite. -

Just ordered Pandemic, Catan Seafarers expansion and Uno (at zatu.co.uk 5% discount for buying three games.)
My 7yo daughter got herself invited into another family's Uno game at Butlins last weekend and loved it. Result.
I'm stoked about Pandemic. Particularly as the reviews seem to imply that it is good for two players.

Pandemic is excellent.
We visited friends yesterday who’s children are also friends with our boys, there were lots of board games to play. Got to play a few I hadn’t played yet; Ticket to Ride Europe was great and I’ll definitely be getting it soon.
Also played Exploding Kittens, with the Imploding expansion, and Cat Chaos.
Cat Chaos was fun, really was chaos playing with all the kids.
