Be careful on ice/wet/drains that hot glue looks like it will be really slippy under foot, might want to make some cuts in it so it's textured a bit.

I'll let you know, I've got a feeling traction will be okay, what was left of the soles was dead smooth anyway, the hot melt glue is softish so it should grip ok.
They can't be more lethal than they were, the studs were so worn I was walking on the cleats, not only slippery under foot but they wear really quickly, I was pulling out of the pedals at some very unlikely moments. -

In that vein: Rubber furniture feet super glued to my road shoes to make them walkable with speedplay frog cleats.
The question now is if I should trim down the adapter plates to make them match the contours of the shoe's sole? And if so, how?

Nice bodges! Very much my forte👍
I would trim those for sure.....get a nice pencil or sharpie and draw the contour on the adaptors, before removing the excess with a hacksaw or dremel, and then sand to shape with a dremel and one of those little sanding drums. 30 minutes work, I reckon! -

That is my plan, but what is putting me off is that they are not a sold block of plastic, but are a sort of criss-cross honeycomb underneath.
So, a) I may weaken them, possible but unlikely I think and b) there may be no edge left at the edge of my cutting and sanding. I can't decide if that is a problem or not...

Thinking about it, I should do the above and then fill the gaps with sugru. I can even make the resulting surface a bit curved and aero-ish.

^ spot on diagnosis, fellow bodger!
I didn't know about the honeycomb thing, but that's what I'd try too.
-
• #309
I would maybe use two part epoxy in the exposed honeycomb structure if you are worried about strength. Might not look as nice as black sugru but you could always just cover with electrical tape or a thin layer of sugru.

Put some black pigment in the epoxy. Fine carbon powder e.g. charcoal stick rubbed down will do it.
Hammer up a BBQ brickette and mix it with hot melt if you want to post about it in this thread though!

This is starting to sound like fun.
Messy play FTW.

I have both leftover charcoal and a two part Gorilla epoxy if you want

My plan is to try and run 1x10 on my touring mtb with a friction shifter without shelling out for a paul thumbie.
I have a broken 10 speed XT shifter, various barend shifters a dremel and some tools.
Anyone tried this before ? I saw Ultraromance (Beardy radavist chap) running Sram eagle 12 speed with friction. but not bar mounted.

Cheers.

You probably wouldn't need that kind of modification for 10sp cable pull. SJS sell cheap thumbie mounts

Thanks that seems a good idea. How about fact i'l be using a clutch Mech (SLX) would the friction in the derailleur overpower the shifter ?
-
• #316
Clutch only affects the cage tension, the parallelogram is separate. I believe SRAM mechs have a stronger spring than Shimano, but don't hold me to that

Nice one , thanks for your help.

Very kind. Yes please. I'll PM you when I'm going to tackle this morning
Thanks.

Cool. In the office right now but should be home (Crystal Palace/Upper Norwood) by about 6. Might have a dr appt tomorrow, in which case I won't by riding in but if I don't, I can sling both in a bag and drop off in Herne Hill on my way home.

Picked up the Boy from school and walked home, just under a mile.
Traction good, glue not coming unstuck, but it wears pretty fast, I have plenty of glue sticks though.I might glue on some shoe rubber or summat. Can't afford new Sidis for a while and these are so comfortable.

I thought that the sole pads are replaceable on Sidis?
-
• #323
Not all, some of mine aren't
-
• #324
Wouldn’t it be possible to buy some football boot pegs (whatare theycalled) and screw into the sole or even glue on?
