I understand that the first bit means that the case is due to start on the 16th or 17th and that the parties will be informed late on the 15th whether they will be needed next day or the day after. Is that right? 10 hours presumably means two days? Is that right? In other words the case is very likely to be 16th to 17th Jan, or 17th to 18th Jan?

Yes, correct. Although there's always a chance that it won't happen on either date due to them finding out at the last minute they don't have enough judges to go round.
