I've been "cashing cheques my body can't cash" so to speak for years now. It's gonna end badly...
I will shed this xmas weight fairly quickly but it's knocking it back down another 5-10kg that I find extremely difficult. I'm not vain, so 6-packs can go to hell, the weight loss is purely as a means to reduce the crippling saddle-inflicted carnage I suffer during ultras.

Interesting read.
In the table thingy it says 1-2 palms of protein dense food in 1-2 meals per day.
I do the cooking and struggle with this for my veggie other half. I want to try and get our diets back in order, including preparing lunch boxes for work.
Does anyone have any suggestions* for veggie options?
I guess an egg is a plam? Avocado? Lentils? Anything else?
Cheers.
*please no one say nuts. They cost a fortune here and are never eaten.

Frozen peas, quinoa, tahini paste, soy beans, tofu?

I could in theory get up shit early and leave an hour earlier and eat on the wheels, then when I get mini Westland work later. But it feels like a wasted hour to me, in a way, as I am not training for the Endurance With Kids On Bike while Fighting For Space. Fun it ain't.
Were it more relaxed and shorter (say using a tandem on a nice cycle lane and a 8 mile roundtrip) however, I'd be all for it. Especially as mini man enjoys tandem cycling a lot (though I need to lug most of this weight) :)
Buses and Brompton combo is also Impossubru due to the lack of public transport going to that area. Buses going outside Belfast city centre is The Pits atm. It's too bad really, I like a long cycle. But I got fed up with fighting for space.

Skyr / Fage and other high protein yoghurts are also excellent for the veggies.
Avocado/quinoa/tahini are not that high in protein, pulses are carbs and protein so they are handy (lentils, beans) and soy stuff/quorn/seitan are low carb protein sources.
Moar on t'internets :)

Quorn, dairy products, beans (kidney etc)

Frozen peas
Cheers that's really useful and I never knew that.
Not sure a I could eat a couple of palms of tahini paste and I'll basically eat anything...
@JWestland - it's finding things which she likes (and will eat) but aren't too expensive that I'm struggling with. I was trying to make more effort with pulses but putting lentils into things as a thickener.

I would rather fight for space and move my legs around for an hour than sit in a car for an hour but looking at traffic numbers I'm pretty sure I'm a minority in that regard. I dunno, it's hard to tell until I'm in the same boat. I would just change what I had to to make something work. Cue: child defense trail of destruction to/from school.

Tahini as a dressing mixed with garlic, lemon juice, harissa loosened with some water. Had some with roast cauliflower, lentils and cod fried with zaatar for my lunch today.
If you check out turkish/mid-east supermarkets they have loads of dry and also precooked pulses in cans and jars you won't see in anglo places, some with dressings already.

Lidl do a plain Skyr which is about 90p for 350g, the Fage 0% is fairly expensive, but I will eat a 500g tub in about 2minutes.
Chickpea flour/Besan is a pretty good source of protein too. Makes pretty nice savory pancake/socca, if you add some herbs or chili.

I am going to cycle to work again, as I am getting fed up with it.
I believe a d-lock carried on the outside sends a clear message to the thickest of drivers...so there's that if needed :)
Do you sell "hippy is watching" hi-vis vests? :p
-
• #11664
Not in Hi-Vis, no. I still tend to travel in Safety Blackā¢ and I'm currently sporting my latest in driver awareness assistants ie. facial hair disaster that I'm yet to name. I can't decide between TerroristStereotype or Given-Up-On-Life. It's like driving an old, dented car - people in shiny new ones tend to stay away.
I still don't travel with a Dlock (I did for a while after someone tried to kill me years ago). Still haven't got those cameras I keep meaning to buy. I'd just spend my whole life editing videos of shit driving for youtube.
On Topic: I skipped breakfast and I ate a 400kcal salad for lunch. I already hate my life.

Hippy is FAsTing. not the same ring to it.
-
• #11666
Gotcha, I just need to dress up like an old dented Volvo and all will be well :P
ouch, you still need some food no? If that's how you diet perhaps that's why you give it up, calorie counting and flexible dieting may be better? Eg hippy cycled and now he can have a nice beer, as he already had his protein and veg/fruit?
Even when I diet, when I exercise I eat it back up. Which means the non exercise days are actually the worst...hi tuna and bye fats/carbs...
Also, the wins. Think of the wins.

My Park Tool cable cutters arrived. Maybe I can just start lopping body parts off. Quicker and more fun.

I'm not normally this severe (unless I'm doing a legit fast day which is 0 calories) but it's first day back from hols so I've probably still got some undigested meat, cake, beer, vodka, etc. in there. I only really skipped brekkie because I couldn't get out of bed and was late enough that going straight for lunch seemed sensible.
Tomorrow I'll be back to MFP calorie counting where I do turbo sessions every night just so can eat Cherry Ripes.
Been ages since I won anything. That's the problem with doing two "fucking massive" races in a year and nothing else. This year I want to actually ride my TT bike (not that I'll be winning anything but at least I might hit some other goals).

Despite apathy for last 3 months (no running or 5-a-side due to fkn-metatarsal) I've managed to stay at 94kg.
Aiming for 0.5kg/week descent to under 80kg (by late summer):-
- Running starts again this week, build up to 30-40km a week
- Back to 2 x 5-a-side a week
- Cycling next week when daughter is back in school routine and I get my Monday's back
- Swimming again too
- Fasting again one or two days a week
No big running/swimming/cycling goal this year, although I'd like to get a Ride 100 place in the ballot, and will probably do Swim Serpentine 2 mile swim again.

not that I'll be winning anything
except the commute
-
• #11671
Yes, I'm the undisputed commuter gold medal winner world champion of the universe about a hundred billion times over.

• #11673
2kg disappeared yesterday so that's nice. So actual gain over xmas is more likely ~1kg.
Annoying that MFP doesn't do calories for strength work.
-
• #11674
That must have been one massive shit.

More likely excess fluid on board due to no ride the day before.
The kid(s) can't be dropped at school earlier allowing you to get back in time for work? Presumably that's the fastest route and there's no alternative? Electric assist bike to speed up the journey time? If the children are old enough can they go by themselves or by public transport?
