  • Touch screen on a graphics machine though >>>>>>>>>>

What like the immensely popular devices amongst graphics people like the Cintiq, MS surface and the... err... Apple iPad Pro?

  • So unless you do high end video editing, get a regular iMac. If you do, space gray ahoy!

If you do high end video editing, why would you get an imac instead of a mac Pro?

You're going to presumably need a massive bunch of external gear anyway.

  • Is that a mustache over a full beard in your avatar or a side parting over a faceless head it's freaking me out a little to be honest.

  • It is a moustache and beard headtube sticker

  • That you connect over lightning or usb3, just like you do to the mac pro?

  • Ah ok, cool, I thought this was maybe some sort of modern graphic-design-y play on the old Diamant logo.

  • fuck yes

  • if anybody wants to get this off me for £250, so i can get some last minute presents that would be greeeeeat

  • Can anyone reccomend a USB keyboard to use with a mac?
Is there something cheaper than the Apple ones but still is ok?
I prefer USB to wireless as I like the reliability of plugging stuff in.

  • Any usb keyboard will work. Just pick one based on what you find comfortable to use - short travel chicklet style like the Mac ones or larger mechanical keys.

Logitech are good/cheap as are the generic Microsoft ones.

  • Why would anyone want to work on a touch screen?
Vega is hardly disastrous, very powerful yes, disastrous no.
    Third point might be valid.

I’d guess it’s for film studios who edit 4K and above videos? I’d love one but can’t justify the cost.

  • tbh I can't see the point of them at £14k which is what we'd spec it to if we bought in to them. Our current retina 5k ones are great for about 3 grand after VAT. Really not going to see yards of difference in the Pros except perhaps in render times which for a business our size doesn't really matter. For larger firms there'll be dedicated render farms and MCR + operators who do all that shit for you.

I want one obviously but I really can't see the point of them.

  • The US tech company also announced a $50 (£37) reduction in the cost of iPhone battery replacements, down from $79 to $29, and an iOS (operating system) software update providing updates on iPhone battery health in early 2018.

Comes in handy since I was thinking of replacing the battery of my 6. $29 for the whole replacement is fair I think.

  • Anyone recommend a free mac cleaner? software

  • Nuclear option: Put all your things on a drive, set up a High Sierra usb installer, format internal drive and start afresh.

Or just download Cocktail. Just whatever you do, don’t install that Mac Cleaner crap.

I’ve used Cocktail since the Power PC days although now it seems almost redundant.

  • Yeah was thinking fresh install.
Most things are saved in the cloud. Just need to back up some software.

  • Time machine backup > format everything > restore from time machine

    ?

  • This would not actually "clean" anything, would it?

  • It wouldn’t clean up the users mess, but I’ve always assumed it sorts out everything on systems level

I might very well be wrong though?

  • I'm not going to spend £10k on an iMac if the advertising copy is presented like a GCSE slideshow.

  • Agree. Was pretty disappointed when I saw that. Apple is usually ahead and above the current trends, not on or slightly behind

  • I might very well be wrong though?

Yep. Time Machine backs up everything, unless you tell it to omit anything. Restoring from a Time Machine backup just takes you back to where you were.

  • What are you trying to clean up?

OSX is pretty good at cleaning up as it goes along, especially compared to PCs.

Mac clean up software is basically a scam and best avoided as @Well_is_it says.
