We put a fair bit of time into it and it was #1 on google for a pretty broad three word phrase. It's now #15 so would need a fair amount of time spent bringing it back to life. It's probably made about 300k since 2012 (from leads and subsequent sales rather than advertising or anything) but I think it has potential to do far more - we've just been distracted with other projects. To the extent we've not had contact via that site since August.
My hesitations:
I'll probably remain distracted so not sure I have the patience to bring it back to life in a meaningful way any time soon.
Tax is due in 30 days and I don't have £££ lying around that isn't already earmarked for HMRC.
If I was going spend either time and/or ££ bringing it back to life plus the cost of the domain itself, wouldn't I be better off just getting a new domain and investing all of that into total ownership? But presumably the 5 year history looks better to Google (etc) than a brand new domain? Domain is based, embarrassingly, on keywords which makes it fractionally more challenging to find a replacement as specific as ours.
Also I just resent the idea of spending any more money on domains.
You're asking yourself the right questions, but only you can answer them. Remember to consider what return you could get on the time and money by doing something entirely different with it.
Amusingly I just typed in what would be the 'dream' domain into GoDaddy. Not only is it available but it's half the price I'm being offered for current one. It's still fucking expensive so it'll have to wait and if it gets snapped up in the interim so be it.
