Part of the question hinges on neither of us knowing much about apps or what a Galaxy Fame comes equipped with! My understanding of ICT mostly predates XP and is now about as useful as knowledge of flint knapping.
The list of compatible devices on the Fitbit site lists variations on Galaxy S3 to S6, but we think the 'Fame' is more basic (= usable by the older generation)
Will give it a go - next question may be how to wrap an app as a late Christmas present...

Can you not put the google fit app on the phone, no need for accesories if the phone has an acceleration! sensor.
