Analog film photography and cameras

Im pretty keen to try developing some film too, what would you say would be a good place to start/good kit list for basic develop and scan? It has always looked a bit pricey (particularly on the scan side of things) and whenever Ive tried to photograph negatives to get scans Ive always had pretty poor results.

Yashica T3 with sniper scope... same lens as T4 - hipster tax.

Great minds think alike (I mentioned them a page before); loved my T3 til a friend of mine broke it while climbing..

You need a good strong back light and a decent mask. Then photoshop is ideal for inverting and applying curves.

Gotta try this at some point (especially if I'll go medium format as I only have a dedicated 35mm scanner).. would also need a proper macro lens for this though (and, actually, a digital camera on the other end with some more pixels wouldn't hurt either).

I once read Ming Thein is doing it with flash.
Never figured out how exactly, and he's super secretive about it (he did try to develop a stand for "scanning" with a DSLR but this didn't work out apparently so he keeps it to himself for now).

Also curious to hear what people report on the built-in negative "scanning" feature of the D850 !

These are epic.

The best stand is a cheap enlarger. Then mount the camera on the head and lightbox on the base. You can pick up enlargers almost free.

Oh I've got that before, I like it. I think it was smaller before, or maybe that's an option, it was several years ago. I like that the paper feels uncoated.

Years ago (more than 10) I had an idea that I would go through my photos and find 100 that I liked. I felt like I had to prove it to myself. Then, life got in the way and I've never done it. Still think about it sometimes. I need to find time to just look at the things I have - I own a lot (ridiculous amount) of stuff and sometimes when I'm tidying up I come across things, but I don't make time to actually enjoy what I have. It's not just photos, it's books, music etc too, but photos are different because you "author" them and because they're a document of your life somehow.
