  • Im pretty keen to try developing some film too, what would you say would be a good place to start/good kit list for basic develop and scan? It has always looked a bit pricey (particularly on the scan side of things) and whenever Ive tried to photograph negatives to get scans Ive always had pretty poor results.

This is a very good value for money starter kit: https://www.fotoimpex.de/shopen/analog-starter-kits/fotoimpex-starter-kit-film-basic.html

  • Wild. Love it

  • Yashica T3 with sniper scope... same lens as T4 - hipster tax.

Great minds think alike (I mentioned them a page before); loved my T3 til a friend of mine broke it while climbing..

  • OH god, that reminds me, I have lent mine to a pal... think this was from it, some lads you may recognise @nefarious

  • You need a good strong back light and a decent mask. Then photoshop is ideal for inverting and applying curves.

  • Gotta try this at some point (especially if I'll go medium format as I only have a dedicated 35mm scanner).. would also need a proper macro lens for this though (and, actually, a digital camera on the other end with some more pixels wouldn't hurt either).

I once read Ming Thein is doing it with flash.
Never figured out how exactly, and he's super secretive about it (he did try to develop a stand for "scanning" with a DSLR but this didn't work out apparently so he keeps it to himself for now).

Also curious to hear what people report on the built-in negative "scanning" feature of the D850 !

  • These are epic.

  • The best stand is a cheap enlarger. Then mount the camera on the head and lightbox on the base. You can pick up enlargers almost free.

  • @chrisbmx116, @JB & @mi7rennie thanks guys! Means a lot to me : )

  • Plans for 2018:
shoot medium format and home develop
Print more I just did my first photobook and found it rather satisfying..

This thread continues to inspire and encourage - thanks everyone.

  • I just did my first photobook

    Well done! Looks great.

  • what where how / how much etc ?

  • Photobox photo journal, A5 sized, 40 pages for £10 and a nice plain brown paper cover, basically looks like a school exercise book

  • Cheers! Will check this out..

  • Oh I've got that before, I like it. I think it was smaller before, or maybe that's an option, it was several years ago. I like that the paper feels uncoated.

  • Years ago (more than 10) I had an idea that I would go through my photos and find 100 that I liked. I felt like I had to prove it to myself. Then, life got in the way and I've never done it. Still think about it sometimes. I need to find time to just look at the things I have - I own a lot (ridiculous amount) of stuff and sometimes when I'm tidying up I come across things, but I don't make time to actually enjoy what I have. It's not just photos, it's books, music etc too, but photos are different because you "author" them and because they're a document of your life somehow.

Those two pages look really nice. Maybe something for 2018 - LFGSS journal/book exchange ?

  • Shot, the most inappropriate film while working a wee in Stockholm.

    Velvia 50.
