This is true, and the initial purchase price of the vehicle doesn't really have any bearing on things - to me, anyway.

I have no idea what the value of the car is now, I suspect I've made another vehicle that will strongly appeal to a very, very small number of people - a cabriolet with Ohlins suspension.

Anyway, that doesn't matter as it's my car.

I am considering buying an entire rwd convertible sports car for approx this much!

Although if you can afford to do it and you enjoy the result, why not? I had an entirely clear commute (inc the ‘alpine hairpin’) in the mist this morning and it was brilliant in my warmish touring. Would have been spectacular in something sporty!

It's easy for these things to become spendy for sure.

My total outlay (if I've not missed anything) for 911 open top motoring is £33,635.05 so far, not inclusive of insurance, petrol etc.

I can finally get the seat as far back as I want it, with the wheel being a suitable distance from my chest - this is good.

It feels nice, the interaction with the car is enjoyable - and by the time I got home I'd re-set where the stalks were in my head, after missing them the first few times.

However, spot the next problem to be resolved:

Right hand drive?

cabriolet?

socks?

I was going to say 'ugly steering wheel' but this seems more likely.

Correct - the wheel diameter is only slightly smaller, however as you can see from the photograph (which attempts a drivers-eye view) that's caused a problem.

The top of the rev-counter used to be obscured, but I could see the majority of it.

Options are therefore:

• Drop the seat ~3cm
  
• Put the old wheel back on with a spacer

I can get 10mm from swapping to the "tall driver" cushion, but I reckon 30mm is the target.

It would have been way cheaper to have done that in the first place, I now know.

I think you'll have the same thing with the old wheel and a spacer, the line of sight will be compromised by that set up too.

Since the engine is already out, why not just convert the whole car to aircooled, then do this:
