Internet is suggesting...a workaround
LFGSS is suggesting that you do the job properly :)

If you're on good terms with your LBS, see if they'll do swapsies? I've done it in the past.

Good idea but I can't swear the spokes are new, they were just laying around. I might toss a coin and see what happens. Will report back.

28h disc hub (6 bolt) Is there a cheap Shimano? I'd like to make my arkose a fixie.
Or a cheap 28h fixed hub.

Emboldened by your pessimistic appraisal of the situation, I laced the wheel up and got things pretty well tensioned. No issues so far. A little less than 1 mm of spoke sticking out of the nipples on the LH side.
Edit: right and left are mixed up below, RH means NDS/disc side.
Edit 2: 36h shimano disc dynohub. Rider weight around 65-70 kgs.

I just received these frm hubs (273g the pair!) from @Mr_Bump. I now need some relatively lightweight 32h rims to build them up on. Ambrosio cronos seem to fit the bill at 380g each. Laced with sapim lasers front and race rear they'll come in at around 1400g. For reference I'm ~60kg and I won't be racing on them so I might get away with it, maybe. Thoughts?

They look to have plenty of holes, 28 Lasers (if you must) are plenty at your weight, except on the drive side rear where you'll probably want Race to give a bit more axial stiffness if you're also using very light, shallow metal rims.
Given the high spoke count and your low weight, you could even go full weight weenie and use SuperSpokes at the front.
Alternatively, since you're not racing and so light weight is even more than usually irrelevant, you could be sensible and use Race all round and Nemesis rims (assuming you're wedded to tubs for reasons other than weight weenieism) to make wheels which will last at least twice as long between trips to the truing stand.

32, I'd imagine, if they're going to be laced to 32h rims.

My point stands :)
(yes, I did miss the 32 in the post)

Natch. I like the SuperSpokes suggestion. Silly but nice boutique hubs and impractical rims should be held together by ultra-niche superlight spokes. It's only right.

What are the choices for 32-36h tubular rims? Ambrosio Chrono & Nemisis, Araya Gold and Mavic Open Pro - are there any others?
I presume the Kysrium SL rims aren't publicly available? -

Kinlin TB20?
-
• #6740
Ah yes, I'd forgotten about that one. Available from @cycleclinic too I believe.
Are there any others? -

This. I already have a pair of sensible wheels :)

Is there a site with confirmed ERDs of rims? My tutor said always measure but I'd rather order spokes at the same time if possible. I'm after Stans Arch mk3
Also spokes for a 70kg rider, 29er wheel, silver? I'm a bit baffled by the choice, but have used DT comp or lazer on previous builds I've had done for me I think.

The tb20 or the nemesis are the best tubular alloy rims you can buy. The he'd Belgium c2 would be good if the kinlins was not identical. The kinlins can be built up in lower spokes which is nice.

The stans rim is shallow therefore use sapim race or DT comps. DT alpine III is the other choice. Measure erd unless the retailer is a wheel builder and uses the rims so does not just restate the manufacturers claim.

Cool, I've found a thread on the MTBR forum where someone was asking the same thing, so have PM'd them to find out if they have an answere.
Is there a forum recommended book on wheel building? Considering I'm going straight in with some nice parts it would probably be good to do some extra reading.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bicycle-Wheel-Jobst-Brandt/dp/0960723668/ , which you can also find as a pirate PDF, a proposition which you might find acceptable now that Jobst is no longer in a position to receive royalties.

That'll help me sleep at night. I was looking for a copy, but they all seem pretty overpriced. Cheers for the link.

I tried reading that book on wheel building once. I got bored and figured i can work it out. I did.

measuring hubs: measure to outside of flange or centre? I would think it's centre, but then that's not where the spokes come out. Come to think of it that PDF probably says but I've not read it yet.
Also on this Shimano chart, 'offset' means the offset of the centre of the flanges from the centre of the hub right?

Internet is suggesting nipple washers as a workaround.
