My Mk1 interior (with 100k on the clock) is pretty solid, but there is the odd rattle and noise - not quite an orchestra though! I'd say the main noises comes from the road itself/suspension as opposed to fear of being K.O'd by interior trim.
If a hardtop is fitted squeaks from behind the driver/passenger are normal due to the roof slightly sliding on the rear mounts.
MX-5 guys, how solid should the interior be? Tried a seemingly well-sorted (sills/front beams done, new hood, etc) mk2 yesterday and was surprised at how much noise there was in the cabin with various bits rattling. Brakes seemed quite soft too.
I suppose the correct answer is to try a few more out so I’m not comparing to a 5-series with a proper roof!
