Read this for cafetiere technique.
Takes a bit of time to get it just right but then it becomes second nature.
You're right though. It's not the same as Moka but it's 6.02 x 10^23 times better than F*lg*rs.

^Good that, I like Nick Cho.

This is a good idea- ‘choke’ the shot (so fine that you only get a couple of drips out of the portafilter) then work backwards to find a good level. Gushing shots never taste good but over-extracted ones can often be ok or rescued with milk.

Never actually tried mainstream instant, but yeah.
Will work on it a bit, including getting a more accurate grinder (Helor 101) so we'll see. -

Yup, this is what I went for. Waaaay better this morning but yeah need to dial it back down.

Thanks for the heads up - unfortunately moving around quite a lot over the next six months so will need something more portable. Would be perfect otherwise :(

Have you looked at a Bellman? Basically a very high quality mokka pot with steamer. They work great.

I've used something similar and my recommendation would be drink black coffee.
My Silivia cost £250 from eBay, I don't think that's stupid.

What that little frother makes is better than the local chains come up with most of the time, and like I said, it's used once a week or so (by my wife, I drink moka at home and espresso at my local).
$430 seems really cheap for a Silvia, well done - obviously not stupid for someone like you, but would be for me since I prefer my well-practised moka to having to plumb in a machine, learn home espresso, deal with water issues and keep the maker clean, not to mention there'd be nowhere to put it in our tiny kitchen! -

@StevePeel YBCR beans have made it to Malaysia. No margarine-infused coffee for me this trip!

Wow, world domination is closer than I'd forecast.

Any views on the cafflano kompresso?
I've done my fair share of makers; french press, aeropress, gaggia classic and have always come back to a stovetop. On the fence about trying anything else. Could be the perfect #lifestyle camping setup?

Anyone ever roasted beans in an old popcorn maker? Colleague and I had the idea the other day and apparently it's a thing.

What do people who don't have an espresso machine use for milk frothing? Are those milk-frother-mini-kettle things any good for £30, or should I get a spinny wand type job?
-
• #13896
That looks great assuming that it works. Which is obviously a big assumption.

just keep the lid on the milk container and give it a hard shake /s

Anyone here has experience with installing a PID for Gaggia Classic or Rancilio Silvia?

I actually still try this out of desperation sometimes.

Frothing - am sure someone on here suggested repeatedly plunging a cafetiere of warm milk for this. Not sure best results but maybe worth a try?
Ha. When I get the element.
There’s lots of google.
Today is going to be tough with no morning espresso. Like real tough.
